| EarthTremor02-21-07, 02:19 AM | Can you spend a Greater Turning attempt (from the Sun Domain and the Radiant Servant of Pelor PrC) to power one (assuming you could spend a normal turn attempt to power it, of course)? And while you're all here, what are you favourite divine feats for a cleric? I'm playing a high-charisma cleric in our next campaign and was thinking of the Radiant Servant... but with 11 turning attempts plus 7 greater turning attempts to burn each day plus the Glory domain, I'm not sure there's many undead who'll even want to show their face in town :P |
| EarthTremor02-21-07, 02:28 AM | Ooops... just re-read the Sun domain and I noticed it allows you to perform a greater turning in place of a regular turning... so the first part of my question is naff. Sorry folks. |
| EarthTremor02-21-07, 04:05 AM | Sooooo... no-one has any favorite divine feats then, huh? |

Nothing like boosting your CL for your spells as a free action for the price of 1 turn. Other than that I like some of the divine feats from PHBII. "Divine ward" solves the problem for "touch" requirement for many of the healing spells. Also "Divine Fortune" is nice (who doesn't want to get a +4 to their next save as an immediate action for the price of one turn attempt?). |
| EarthTremor02-22-07, 10:46 PM | Yeah, I did think of going down the Persistent Spell path with a human cleric of Wee Jas (using the Planning domain, so that I could start pulling off persistent spell shenanigans right from first level). But then I slapped myself and realised that being that abhorently cruel to my newbie DM should probably be a violation of the Geneva convention and decided to leave it well alone. I like Divine Spell Power, particularly for it's flavour, but the general concensus on the boards is that it's an underpowered feat. Has it proven more useful for you? At the moment we only have access to the divine feats from the Complete Warrior and the Complete Divine too... what would be your top selections from those? For sake of argument, my cleric will have a Charisma of 18. |

It essentially gives you between 4d6 and 8d6 HP every time you use it. The evil Cleric in one of my groups has 5 turn attempts per day. Between this feat and Tomb-tainted Soul, odds of him dieing are very slim. Divine Vigor is fairly nice on a Paladin. |

It seems to me in the early to mid-levels Divine Spell Power is quite useful as many of the effects that the divine buffs have are level dependent (Divine favor/shield of faith/resist energy/spiritual weapon/magic vestiment/protection from energy/greater magic weapon/righteous might/flame strike). It may lose its effectiveness as you get into the higher levels, but if you have many turning attempts and a good CHA, I don't think it would every be a waste of a feat to get extra caster level for your spells. Casters seem to always be looking for ways to increase caster level (ioun stones, bead of karma, etc.). This is a quick and easy way to get +1-4 CL at the expense of one turn attempt. Well worth it in my book. In terms of other Divine feats in CDiv and CWar, Divine Vigor is an excellent feat (+10' movement and +2 temp hp/clvl) for CHA minutes? Yes, please! Only downside is need to spend a standard action to activate it. Divine Shield is also not a bad feat, but also takes a standard action to activate. Domain Spontaneity is nice if you have good domain spells. |

I do plan to take it as soon as I can convicne a DM to let me run an evil cleric. For some reason the idea makes most of them nervous. :D This character will be good, however, so Lifleeech is right out. As for Divine SpellPower, I think you're right mostholy2, I've been listening to the wrong people. Not only is it a good feat but it's easy to describe in visceral terms. Because many of the players in my group (including the DM) are new to 3rd-ed D&D, I prefer to use feats and actions that can be explained as 'in game' effects - It's not hard to imagine my cleric 'turbocharging' his spell with divine energy before casting it... trying to describe Divine Metamagic [Quicken Spell] in action is somewhat harder. So Divine Spell Power it is, at least for now. Thankyou all for your input. |
