Rapid Metamagic (cmage 46) vs. Metamagic Specialist (phbII 61)

Still kind of new and just wondering what each one of these does, if it's not the same. Thanks.

Rapid Metamagic lets you cast all metamagic-ed spells with its normal casting time, instead of extending it into a full round action at the least, at cost of 12 ranks of a skill and a feat.

Metamagic Specialist does the same, but costs your familiar and can only be done a limited times per day.

What feat allows spells to be cast spontaneously?

I think you want the Sudden Meta Magic feats.

Those are once-per-day though.. and the only sudden I'd be interested in would be sudden quicken, HOWEVER, I'd need to take 5 prerequisite feats for that, and suck even harder.

In a fairly related topic, would Rapid Metamagic allow a spontaneous caster to use Quicken Spell?
