Rapid Reload and Quick Loading [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-11-07, 11:02 PM As the title suggests, the question I have is weither the feat Rapid Reload and the weapon inhancement Quick Loading (MIC 41) stack to create a quicker reload.

07-12-07, 12:25 AM I would say no. 1 b/c if using it with a hand or light crossbow, rapid reload or quick loading would make it a free action, and you cant get any quicker than that. 2 b/c if using it with a heavy crossbow, quick loading makes the whole loading process magical, and thus is does not matter how fast YOU can load it.

07-12-07, 12:33 AM No. Rapid Reload and (I would assume, but not know, because I don't have the MIC) Quick Loading don't say the action becomes "one type faster." They specify what type of actions they become. Rapid Reload SPECIFICALLY says that light and hand crossbow reloads become free actions and heavy crossbow reloads move actions.

08-29-07, 11:59 PM It would be nice if these stacked, but they don't. You might want to invest in a Belt of Battle to go with your Quick Loading heavy crossbow/great crossbow. That way you could burn three charges to get the extra move actions you need, and make 4 shots for a full attack.

08-30-07, 01:35 AM I personally think if someone was willing to spend another feat, i would have something along the lines of Improved Rapid Reload that simply allows it as a free action. Feats ain't cheap, and this is fantasy, after all :D

Firstly, the Quick Loading weapon special ability description on page 41 of Magic Item Compendium is almost identical to the Quick-Loading description on page 97 of Arms and Equipment Guide (substituting "move action" for the 3.0 "move-equivalent action").
Secondly, the official WotC rule is that newer material replaces old, so the MIC weapon special ability obviates that from the AaEG.
Thirdly, there is no sidebar for Quick-Loading. The sidebar is on "Self-Loading Crossbows and the Rapid Reload feat". A Self-Loading Crossbow is a specific magic item, not a weapon special ability. As such it can't just be applied to a different type of weapon.
Fourthly, the sidebar refers only to the Self-Loading Crossbow, not regular heavy crossbows.
