| Strogg06-09-07, 10:02 PM | how exactly do these feats work? i have read them over and i am still confused. does rapid strike give you one extra claw attack if you have to claws or one extra attack with each claw? and how does improved rapid strike work? |
| Muktar06-09-07, 11:12 PM | Could you tell me which book it is in again. Sometimes it is hard to remember where every feat is. |
| dragonman197906-09-07, 11:30 PM | Found a reference to this on another website. It looks to be a melee equivalent of Rapid Shot, or a weapon version of the Monk's Flurry of blows. In essence, if you had this feat, and your base attack bonus was +7/+1 or more, you can make an extra attack as part of a full round action. If you did make the extra attack, you'd be getting +5/+5/-1, or if you chose to use only 2 attacks, +5/+5. You'd take a -2 penalty on all attacks made that round. The improved rapid strike looks to be rapid strike for spring attacks, but there's a feat for that in PH 2, called Bounding Assault. |
| Jeriaus06-09-07, 11:41 PM | Its just one extra attack. Improved gives you up to 4 extra attacks at a cumulitave -5 penalty. |
| chromeraven06-10-07, 04:03 AM | when I read the feat I was under the impression that it gave a second set of your selected attack type. so 2 claws = 4 claws, 1 bite = 2 bites, and so forth. Improved gave a third iteration. it's been a long time since I looked at it though, so it's quite possible I'm wrong. |
| Strogg06-10-07, 09:13 AM | so a creature with a base attack bonus of 10/5 and + 8 str and two claws would get this mnay attacks with rapid strike and improved rapid strike? noramlly it would only get 18/18 . with the feats is it 18/18/(18from rapidstrike)(/13/8/3/-2from improved rapid strike?) and if so would any other feats reduce the cumulitave -5 from improved rapid stike? |
| strenoth06-10-07, 04:21 PM | OK, so first you need a paired attack (so bite is out unless you have multiple heads) +15 BaB, and paired claws, w/ rapid strike: you get Claw: +15/+15/+15 As above, but with IRS: Claw attack: +15/+15/+15/+10/+5/+0 since in multiple natural weapon sets (claws, wings, etc) you always do the same damage with either weapon, it doesn't matter which of the set the extra attacks are coming from, but it's easiest to imagine them alternating really fast. So, instead of a claw/claw/bite routine, you get a calw/claw/claw/claw/claw/claw/bite routine. Owwie. |
| Strogg06-10-07, 05:08 PM | rapid strike and improved rapid strike are in dragonnomicon right? |
| strenoth06-11-07, 12:46 AM | correct. |
| wonlee7606-11-07, 10:29 AM | I believe rapidstrike works like the TWF line of feats for certain monsters (I forget the monster restrictions other than Dragons and Abberations) only for natural attacks that come in pairs (Claws, Wing for Dragons, maybe slam attacks too but I'm not too certain). Baddie has 2 claw attacks that are normally +20/+20. Rapidstrike changes that to +20/+20/+15/+15. Improved Rapidstrike changes that to +20/+20/+15/+15/+10/+10 |
| Stardust06-11-07, 12:12 PM | As I read it, the feat basically gives iterative attacks with paired weapons. For example, if you have a dragon (with improved multiattack - not because it's necessary, but it makes the maths that bit easier), it might have attacks as follows: Full attack: Bite +20 2 claws +20 2 wings +20 1 tail slap +20 With the rapidstrike feat, it would gain iterative attacks with one of the paired weapons (say claws): Full attack Bite +20 2 claws +20/+15 2 wings +20 1 tail slap +20 With improved rapidstrike, it could add up to four extra attacks: Full attack: Bite +20 2 claws +20/+15/+10/+5/+0 2 wings +20 1 tail slap +20 And taking the feat chain again would allow the same thing for the wing attacks as well. Scary stuff. And if any of my players are reading this, yes, you are screwed. |
