If you are using Robilar's Gambit (PHII) dow you get the attack of opportunity against an opponent with reach? How about an opponent using spring attack who ends the spring attack out of reach?

Also, can special attacks (e.g sunder, trip) or martial adept manuvers be used with an AoO?

You cannot make AoO on opponents you do not threaten, so if you don't have a reach weapon you can't attack someone hitting you with one. However they still get the +4 to hit and damage. That's fun.

Spring Attack prevents the AoO from leaving the threatened square(s), however it does not prevent an AoO from attacking someone, so Robilar's Gambit still works normally against spring attack.

I don't know about the ToB stuff, but I believe (90% sure) that you can use trip, sunder etc. in an AoO. I know I've seen trip builds based on it.

Are the maneuvers attack actions or standard actions?
If it is the latter, then they cannot be used in a AoO.

Incidentally an attack action is a standard action, just not vica versa.

AoO is another category of attacks all together.

Nitpicking aside though, the attack of oppertunity allows you to make an attack against the provoking opponent. That means you can use any special attack (trip, disarm, sunder, what have you) that could normally be used in lieu of a regular attack.

Attacks of oppertunity do not allow you to use any standard action against the provoking opponent, so no maneuvers, spellcasting or anything else that takes a standard action but is not specifically an attack action.

The majority of things in Tome of Battle are Standard Actions akin to spells that require an attack roll. As such, they are not usable as an AoO.

There are many "Counters" which can be used in that fashion however. Counters are special maneuvers that are immediate actions, usually taken in response to an attack from someone else. Since they are still maneuvers though, I doubt there could be any crossover from Robilar's.

Many maneuvers include an attack of some kind. All offensive combat actions, even those that don't damage opponents (such as disarm and bull rush), are considered attacks. All maneuvers that opponents can resist with saving throws, that deal damage, or that otherwise harm or hamper subjects are considered attacks.

Besides which, from a logical view, it makes sense that RG would work against martial maneuvers, so long as the maneuver in question is made as part of an attack.

I thought the question was whether you could use maneuvers as your counterattack in conjunction with Robilar's Gambit.

I don't doubt they could trigger someone else's Robilar's.

If I'm not mistaken, Counters are treated differently than AoO (Different limits on number per round), so I'm inclined to say no.
