| The_Unseen_Illusion07-18-07, 09:34 PM | Hi, I was wondering if there were any rules on gambling, I would perfer it to be simple. If there isn't, can anyone devise a gambling system? |
| TheCobra07-18-07, 10:20 PM | Same as any other profession check, I imagine. |
| Sargeras07-18-07, 10:25 PM | What we do is just roll opposed checks, but instead of Wis modifier, we use Int or Cha. If someone doesn't have ranks in Profession: Gambling, they oppose with an Int or Cha check. Pretty simple, I think. |
| bobothechimp07-18-07, 10:49 PM | There's these neat rules in the PHB about profession skills. You should look at those. |
| Vaelan07-18-07, 11:16 PM | If you believe that the Profession rules don't cover Profession (Gambler) very well, you could always add a multiplier to the result (player's choice, possibly limited by environment) and have a chance of the result being the amount of money you have lost rather than won. |
| BilopTheFleshwarper07-19-07, 01:43 AM | 1. gambling is not a profession, despite the at that there ARE professional gamblers. 2. if the standard profession rules are not good enough for you look in the star wars d20 books under the skill gamble. pretty detailed but doesn't automatically give money like the profession skill does. |
| TheCobra07-19-07, 02:08 AM | 1. gambling is not a profession, despite the at that there ARE professional gamblers. It's a profession in D&D. The the prestige class fatespinner even requires a few ranks in the skill. |
| The_Unseen_Illusion07-19-07, 04:09 AM | The the prestige class fatespinner even requires a few ranks in the skill. Which was the precise reason why I was asking. But idduno, I don't think my DM would let me rake in 1,000's of gps just bc I have 5 ranks in Gambling |
| Puca07-19-07, 10:20 AM | And he shouldnt. The only way you should get 1,000s of gps is by going out and killing people and looting their lifeless corpses like a decent, respectable adventurer. But seriously, Profession works well with (gambler). Whatever games you play, you win some hands, you lose some, and at the end of the week, your check result tells you how well you made out. If it is unrealistic, it is so to your financial advantage. If you want to try for the "big money," Id play the actual game, poker, craps, three-dragon ante, whatever. RPed, in character. Not fun for every session, but once in a while. |
| runestar07-19-07, 10:35 AM | It is pretty much just for the flavour. No one profession is really any more lucrative than the other (since your earnings is based on your skill check, so you can apparently make as much money selling dung sculptures or being a top chef, assuming you have equal ranks in both). Else, everyone would just take the profession which earns the most money, and there would be little reason to choose the rest. |
| lint trap07-19-07, 11:15 AM | Gambling is a separate skill for the d20 Modern system. Their rules are iffy, though, and use the Purchase DC system, so it's not likely they'll be of much use. |
