| wizarddog04-13-07, 01:46 AM | Okay I'm trying to design an acrobatic foe and have a few questions regarding some feats... Now I wanted the foe to be able to flip foward, attack through and keep on moving. Naturally Spring attack would allow to move attack and move up to the movement rate with provoking an attack of oppotunity. Some addition feats that would be intresting require you make a tumbling role as you enter / pass their square. Acrobatic Strike and Tumbling Feint from PB II and Skill Trick Acrobatic Backstab. They require you roll a tumbling check as to evade an attack of oppotunity to use the ability. But with spring attack you do not incur the attack of oppotunity when moving--attacking----and moving. Is it then as RAW that you must roll a tumbling check to evade AoO to use these feats/tricks even when you normally do not incur a AoO? |
| Ranger REG04-13-07, 02:24 AM | But with spring attack you do not incur the attack of oppotunity when moving--attacking----and moving. Only your intended target of your "attacking" cannot be provoked. Your OTHER opponents that threaten you may be provoked by your movement as per normal. |

(I DM a VERY small group) Where as you are required to do a tumble check on the opponent to get the Acrobatic strike or Tumbling Feint ability but you are not inccuring a AoO because of Spring Attack for moving through their "threatening area". Is by RAW that a tumbling check is still needed or are we going to talk mechanics of the game where this applies? ;) |

Therefore you don't need to make a Tumble check. You could provoke other opponents and if your DM allows, you can make a Tumble check against them. But from what I read in the Acrobatic Strike and Tumbling Feint, they're useless with Spring Attack, especially on your intended target. On another opponent (not your intended target), you'll need an extra attack action to use the bonus from Acrobatic Strike because it can only be used before the end of your current turn. You'll need an extra standard action to make a Bluff check with bonus from Tumbling Feint (if successful). |
