| Kaladon777905-10-07, 05:18 PM | Ok I have a few questions on these two feats, if people could help me out on these please. It says that in order to use a Sacred Relic you have to sacrafice a required spell slot to use the item unless you have the True Believer Feats. Now from what I looked at I saw some example items in the book that requires you to sack a 6th level spell slot to use it. So does mean you have to have a 6th level spell slot to sack to use? Reason asking is my buddy says that if you have True believer you can use the item regardless which makes no sense to me at all. That means that without True Believer a minimum of level 12 is required to use a 6th level spell sack item, but if you have True Believer the item can be used at level 1. Is he right about that becouse that doesn't make sense to me. |

| StevenO05-10-07, 11:06 PM | Without digging into the rules you need only one to show your belief and activate the Relic. Sacrificing a spell slot shows you have the power to wield the item, but taking the True Believer feat shows you have the spirit and faith with the deities find most important. |
| Kaladon777905-11-07, 09:09 AM | If I had the book I wouldn't really be asking you guys about this. But since I've got players coming into my group with feats i've never heard of before and that they don't sound very balanced I have to ask some other people about it since no one has the book to show the official rulings on it. Basically it just as my discription as what my friend says how it works. If the item normally requires you to sack say a 5th level spell then you would have to have to be atleast 9th level to use the item. He says that if you have the True Believer feat the Level of the character no longer applies. So same situation, if you don't have the True Believer feat you need to be 9th level to use the item, with the true believer feat you can use the item at level 1. Is that true becouse that doesn't sound very balanced? |
| Garonak05-11-07, 09:15 AM | In the Complete Divine it says clearly in the item description that you have to either lose a spell slot or have the True Believer feat AND have a certain number of HD. If there are any items that do not have this entry, then house rule it. And just a note, just because an item or feat exist doesn't mean that you have to allow it in your campaign. If in doubt about anything your player says, then demand that he/she brings the book in question and let you read it on your own, then you can decide. |
| Kaladon777905-11-07, 10:31 AM | Now when factoring the discount for the Sacred Relic. The Formula states, I can't remember the exact wording Spell Level X level of Caster X 400 But when you fact in isn't it more like Spell Level X Minimum Caster level X 400 Reason asking is my buddy said you always factor in Maximum character level for the discount so if he's level say 7 and he makes something with a level 1 spell then that would bring the cost to negative in money and that doesn't make any sense. |
| Garonak05-11-07, 11:24 AM | Where is the sacred relic feat? |
| Kaladon777905-11-07, 11:27 AM | Complete Divine, if you or somebody could please look it up and explain it to me that would be great. His formula isn't working out correctly atleast it sounds like its more of a broken formula to me. |
| Garonak05-11-07, 11:41 AM | If it is Sanctify Relic you mean: As I understand it: In you create a relic that gives you fast healing 1, that is a ring of lesser vigor. Persistent Lesser Vigor: lvl 7 spell Caster Level: 13 Cost divided by 2: 1000 Total: 91000 Suggested Discount: 7x13x400 = 36400 For a ring of continues Bless: Spell lvl: 1 Caster lvl: 1 Cost multiplied by 2: 4000 Total: 4000 (As a DM I would modify this price quite alot) Suggested Discount: 1x1x400 = 400 I don't quite see how you can get a negative cost. Under the Relic section it says that the discount is SUGGESTED, that means it is up to the DM. If you think it's too powerful then adjust it or bann it. |
| Kaladon777905-11-07, 11:56 AM | For a ring of continues Bless: Spell lvl: 1 Caster lvl: 1 Cost multiplied by 2: 4000 Total: 4000 (As a DM I would modify this price quite alot) Suggested Discount: 1x1x400 = 400 I don't quite see how you can get a negative cost. Under the Relic section it says that the discount is SUGGESTED, that means it is up to the DM. If you think it's too powerful then adjust it or bann it. So garonk what your saying in the Bless Ring example you gave, even if your.....37th level character and you create it, the discount is still 1 x 1 x 400 = 400 Gold discount, is that correct? |
| Garonak05-11-07, 12:10 PM | Yes, if you choose to use the discount option. |
| Kaladon777905-11-07, 12:15 PM | Thanks Garonak, you've been a big help. |
| Kaladon777905-16-07, 08:00 AM | Alright I got the basics on how this works however I have one more question on this if you all could help me with this please, The Formula for the discount suggested states... Spell Slot X Minimal Cleric level X 400 Now when figuring the Spell Slot, I assume that's the Spell Slot you have to Sacrafice to make it. Now can you chose the spell sacraficed? Like Say i'm 17th level can I choose to sack a 9th level spell to make something that is only a level 2 spell just so I can increase the discount more. Is that how it works? |
