03-17-07, 03:23 PM Hey everyone, I seem to remember reading somewhere that if you have an animal "aid another" in your attempts to track someone, you gain a +2 synergy bonus? Does anywhere know where this rule is located?

For instance you have purchased a dog from a nearby town to help you track down a criminal. This criminal is adept at hiding his track, but you are a rather powerful ranger with great success at finding tracks. While initially you were frustrated at your useless attempts to locate him, you purchase a dog who helps lead you to his tracks through his scent ability. Together you both follow the tracks to a cabin in the wood, smoke billowing from the chimney.

(and if not would you consider this reasonable regardless?)

03-17-07, 07:31 PM You could also be generous and let it negate some of the tracking penalties for terrain- you leave just as much of a scent moving no matter what you take (see Mythbusters for evidence that rivers don't even slow down bloodhounds).

03-18-07, 01:15 AM Complete Adventurer spells this out (p.100). Assist Track works like other skill assists. If the animal has the scent ability and knows the track trick they can assist your track. They roll a DC 10 Survival check. If they succeed they add +2 to your survival (track) check.

CA also notes that an animal can Assist Attack and Assist Defend, which works like Aid Another (PHB).

Thats the exact place I read it from and exactly what I was looking for, thank you.
