Hi
I would like to know if there is a feat that, when used, could remove the opponent's shield with your weapon, sort a by-passing the shield. I ask this because I would like to make a viking like warrior and, as a historian maniac, I know that the Viking's axes ere able to pass behind the shields of the medieval troops at this time, therefore they were able to hit their opponent even with a shield.

Thanks

no, but there is a feat that helps you get rid of their shield, its called improved disarm :P

If you are a two-weapon fighter, the Pin Shield feat may be for you! You can find it in Complete Warrior, page 103.

I never thought about disarming a shield, actually -- I wonder how you would figure out your opposed attack roll with that.

Just take Improved Sunder and destroy the shield... very spectacular!

Find the Gap from the Draconomicon lets you use a Spot check to negate several kinds of armor bonuses (but works mostly for rogue-types, and really good when paired with Improved Feint). Wraithstrike and another spell from the CAdv also negate shield bonuses.

As normal.

Disarm check is BAB + Str + magical bonus + penalties (like if bow -4, light weapon like light shield -4/not a melee weapon is also -4).
Question is whether a heavy shield is + 0 or -4. Shields can be used for melee (shield bash), but without bashing they aren't designed for melee -4.
Say a 14 Str Fighter Level 4 with a Light shield:
Disarming him of a light shield is a check of versus 1d20 + 2 str + 4 bab=6 + 1d20 versus oppoenent.

Even better if you aren't disarming a melee weapon: failing the check doesn't disarm back attacker's weapon.

Seconded. When a Viking warrior splits a shield, what do you think he's using?

Improved Sunder also opens up the Combat Brute feat in Complete Warrior, which has several interesting options in its own right if you like charging -- such as Sundering Cleave, which splits their shield and lets you continue on through it to the target.

You can't just make a normal Disarm roll against a shield, because most shields are strapped to your arm. If you want to consider a shield as a weapon and so you can disarm it that way, I would treat it as if it was attached to a locked gauntlet for +10 to resist disarm.

If you can ready or loose a shield as a move action or drop a shield as a free action (which you can), then an opponent most certainly can disarm you of it as an attack action.

If you like the idea of Improved Sunder (also note Tempest Stormwinds idea of the follow-up feat Combat Brute), there was a cool feat in Dragon Magazine(333 I think?), which let you deal damage to the foe whose shield you just destroyed.

Just imagine: You sunder an orcs shield and get many boni to hit and damage because of your sundering feats and then you deal the same damage to the orc!

I once played a dwarven siege expert who was specialised in destroying all kinds of things, there are a great many feats out there that can help you with that and they are very stylish and (in their little niche) very effective.

In my humble opinion sundering is an undervalued but fun combat technique.

Well, thx for all your tips guys, I think I will go with the improved sunder: imagining an axe-wielding viking sundering his opponent's shield looks crazy, even though the improved disarm may be useful as well.

You can't. You have to lose it as a move action, then spend a free action to drop it. Let's see...weapons, you drop as a free action, no other action required. So they are completely different. Shields, just like armor, are worn, and only loosely secured items can be disarmed. If you have your shield attached as loosely as a broach (the PHB example of what "loosely worn" means), you deserve to have to removed.

I second the notion of giving shields the +10 to resist disarms. Even if you let loose of the handgrip, it's still strapped to your arm. If you want to nerf the shield, sunder it.

The problem is that Improved Sunder might as well be called Improved Destroy Loot.

Pin Shield is nice, but it sucks to give up all your off-hand attacks for the round for a measly +2 to hit. If your opponent has a +5 Shield of Holy Crap, it might be worth it, though.
