Learn Prohibited Spell Req: Specialist Wizard, Caster Level 11 You may learn a single spell from one of your prohibited schools. The spell must be one level lower than the highest level spell that you can cast. You may enter the spell in your spellbook and use it normally. Too high a level feat? Too low? Game breaking? Or is it somewhere in one of the books? |

And I see no reason for the caster level requirement, since lower level casters would be restricted to getting lower level spells by the way the feat works anyway. It's useful, and makes especially evocation with its two good spells a nearly useless school to not prohibit, but since a feat is a pretty solid price for a single spell and schools other than divination would still require you to give up something more major, I don't think it'd be unbalancing. Fairly narrow in its use, though. You'd see Learn Prohibited Spell (Contingency) and like... what else? |

I put the caster level requirement in there mostly for flavor reasons (after mastering the art of magic....blah, blah) and to keep most of the specialist limitations intact. Do others agree that the level requirement isn't necessary? |

Which probably means that at least for your campain, this single custom feat won't overpower the character taking it. Oh and, I missed your other question the first time. I'm fairly sure it isn't in any book, although there's a few casting base and prestige classes that have class features that could be used for something like that, often school-specific or a little cheesy when it comes to prohibited spells though. |

Spell Reprieve lets you choose 1 spell that you can learn normally from your prohibited schools. It can be taken multiple times. It leads into 2 other feats: Item Reprieve, which lets you use spell trigger/completion items of that school normally, and Arcane Transfiguration, which makes the entire school available to you normally. |

The existence of the Shadow Conjuration severly limits the need to learn real shadow spells. The schools I never get rid of are: Transmutation, Illusion and Abjuration. Transmutation just has too many spells. Abjuration has Dispell Magic which is too important. Illusion has some of the best defensive spells around (Invisibility, mirror Image, etc.) as well as the Shadow spells to recover much of either conjuration and/or evocation |
