| Steidas07-27-07, 12:22 AM | If so, what would happen? Would you get an extra language, or two? You'd get smacked on the face. |
| Roog07-27-07, 12:31 AM | If so, what would happen? Would you get an extra language, or two? Three extra languages; and Open Minded would give you 2 1/2 extra (i.e. spend a skill point for 3), unless Speak Language is a class skill for you, in which case it's five extra languages. Technically it has no effect, except for a +3 bonus to Speak Language checks, but you under normal circumstances you never have to make any. It is possible that in exceptional circumstances a GM could ask for a Speak Language check, treating it as Knowledge:Languages for example. That turns up occasionally in games I have played (where it would be appropriate and the PC does not have ranks in the regular knowledge skill, e.g. no Knowledge:History skill and attempting to identify an ancient language). |
| Salla07-27-07, 12:33 AM | If so, what would happen? Would you get an extra language, or two? Skill Focus gets you a +3 bonus on skill checks in that skill. Speak Language involves no skill checks. You can do it, but it would accomplish absolutely nothing. |

| Steidas07-27-07, 12:40 AM | You can RP like an English major or something, and always correct peoples grammar :P This would ACTUALLY be an excelent character. |
| risner07-27-07, 01:23 AM | If so, what would happen? Would you get an extra language, or two? No, it obviously doesn't work. |
| Kouk07-27-07, 01:47 PM | But it wouldn't really be unbalanced to make a feat that granted you three languages (if there isn't one already). Using Open Minded as a base, which would allow any character to learn 2.5 languages (and Bards and Beguilers 5 languages) due to the "free" skill points, a feat for 3 languages may even be slightly underpowered. |
| Steidas07-27-07, 01:55 PM | I think there's one that gives you 5 isn't there? |
| Blarghy07-27-07, 05:26 PM | There's Master Linguist or something along that lines in Races of Eberron, which gives you a free language for every level you gain. |
| Illithid_Tentacles07-28-07, 06:41 PM | Skill Focus gets you a +3 bonus on skill checks in that skill. Speak Language involves no skill checks. You can do it, but it would accomplish absolutely nothing. Exactly. |
| JulesCARV07-28-07, 06:49 PM | RAW, you get nothing. My house rule: you get three languages of your choice. |
| Nidair07-28-07, 06:50 PM | By logic, you would get to speak one extra language fluently (as normally with 2 skillpoints) and to speak an additional language in a primitive way, like a drunk half-orc on a late saturday night. But logic has no place in D&D, so I would say the same as the poster above me :P |
