Skills to Impersonate a Statue? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've been working on my backup character which is a stone speaker guardian from races of stone (monk / druid / stone speaker guardian), however (with DM approval) instead of being a goliath he is a human, and the stone form feat instead of going a rock type shape, turns him into a marble version of himself. Now with that inmind, one of my ideas would be to use him as a scout and instead of hiding in shadows when someone approches, hide in plain sight impersonating a statue. Now I'm not sure what skills would be the best to have him to this? I thought that disguise would be the best option, if there was a perform mimic that would perfect but haven' seen that, so what do you all think?

Well, Disguise and Bluff are easy choices. Also, there is nothing that says you can't take Perform (mimicry) or even Perform (mime) as long as your DM approves them as valid subsets. I could also see a synergy bonus from taking 5 ranks in both Disguise and Bluff and getting a +4 bonus on Perform (Mime) checks. ;)

This is a straight Disguise check. (Mime involves movement, so that's not applicable.) One of the things you'd do with Disguise is add some dust on your head, shoulders, and upper surfaces of arms, because statues don't stay clean without being tended to.

Actually Mime is applicable, since those people who work as Living Statues, learned that craft though the study of Mime. Since we are talking about pretending to be a statue, I think that would be very appropriate.

Personally, I'd add in Balance. Balance is all about maintaining a stable bodily orientation (not falling over). Put more ranks in and you have someone who can not only stay standing on a rail, but can do so without having to wave their arms around.

Good ideas guys thanks, I'll have a chat to my DM about it and see what he things as well.

I figurered if I was going with disguise Dheran, I was planning on using a disguise kit to that effect to enhance looking more older and being in place. Of course that would apply to the situation (i.e. dungeon vs manson).

There is no real metagaming use for this such as sneak attacks or sudden strikes, very much more a role playing thing, because most of the skills would be cross class ones anyways so I couldn't really max out on it, hoping for a good circumstance bonus from being in a marble form already.

I would not use Balance, nor would I use Bluff.

Instead I would use Concentration and Disguise.

It seems to me that the main problem trying to impersonate a Statue is to concentrate on not-moving.

Balance would be of little help.

There might be something in that. I noticed something in Races of Stone, that you can use Concentration to avoid being heckled during a performance, I guess that would be similar. Anything that requires you to concentrate and not move, would require concentration as a skill. So with the levels in monk I can easily role play it. Thanks guys.

Look at the spell "Statue" in the PHB this might give you ideas.

I don't remember the page number.
