| Nizo09-29-07, 02:05 PM | If I am using my decisive strike (phbII variant of monk), and I decided to use snap kick along with it (or feats/spells that grant extra attacks in general) is the attack a decisive one? I would think it would but in terms of brokenness it sounds unlikely. Thanks in advance, Nizo |

For levels 1-7 the tradeoff is a wash; you're getting one attack with double damage instead of 2 FoB attacks for single damage. With Decisive Strike you'll do better against foes with damage reduction, but you'll be worse off on critical hits because two doublings only give you 3X damage. For levels 8-10 you're getting one attack at full BAB with double damage instead of 2 FoB attacks at full BAB for single damage and one attack at BAB - 5. (Remember, you always hit at least 5% of the time no matter how low your BAB.) The tradeoff is worse for these levels. For levels 11+ you're getting two attacks at full BAB with double damage instead of 3 FoB attacks at full BAB for single damage and one or more attacks at BAB-5/BAB-10. The tradeoff just gets progressively worse. Unless you're only fighting enemies with heavy DR, Decisive Strike is a sucky option starting at level 8. This choice weakens critical hits for your Monk, so Improved Critical (unarmed strike) and keen kamas are worth less than if you'd stuck with Flurry of Blows. Decisive Strike also makes multiclassing with anything that adds precision damage (Rogue/Scout/Ninja) even suckier, because you don't double precision damage. Given all these drawbacks, Decisive Strike combining effectively with Snap Kick doesn't have any degree of "brokenness". |
