As a fighter/rogue, and longbow user, I've noticed there aren't many opportunities to use my sneak attack. Usually I'll get to use it if I roll high on initiative.

Is it possible to get sneak attack damage within 30 feet without catching them flat-footed? I don't see how really.

Also, rapid shot is a favorite of any bow user. Can you rapid shot and get sneak attack damage? I think you can since you use TWF and get SA as many times as you hit in the right situation.

Just some questions I'm trying to figure out. Just seeing if theres away to up the damage of an archer without a str bonus! Bleh.

Thanks!

Find some other way to deny them their DEX bonus. Greater invisibility comes to mind. Probably some other spells as well.

Yes, the general rule is that if you're making a separate attack roll for each attack then they qualify for "precision" damage; ie, critical hits and sneak attack. So as long as the opponent still qualifies for sneak attack you're fine. If it's something like you're under the effects of invisibility and become visible as soon as you attack then further attacks don't qualify.

Thanks, that was useful. I may try and invest in a ring of invisibility as a minor solution. I guess I could always take ranged pin as well though it'll be fairly hard to pull off.

While expensive, a ring of blinking is a better bet if you can live with the 20% miss chance, you attack as if invisible so you always deny your opponent his bonus to DEX.

Some common Spells that you can use to get a ranged sneak attack:

1. Grease (unless the guy has 5 ranks in balance skill, when he balances, he is flat footed)

2. Invisibility (1 shot), Greater Invisibility (all shots)

3. Glitterdust/Cause Blindness (blinds the target)

4. Leomund's tiny hut. (You can't be seen, you can see out, ranged attacks go right through it, you are effectively invisible)

5. Black Tentacles (They are grappling, people grappling lose their Dex bonus against 3rd parties)

Sort of; when firing into a grapple, you have an equal chance of hitting every member of the grapple. In the case of black tentacles and one bad guy, yeah - it's 50/50. Also note that your attacks won't harm the tentacles, as per the spell description.

There's a feat that perfectly suits your needs: Deadeye Shot, PHB II.

If your party includes a spellcaster, check through the descriptions of his spells. I don' have my books handy, but I think Dazed or Dazzled and definitely Blinded denies a Dex bonus. So by coordinating your strategy the spellcaster could setup victims with relatively low-level spells for you to fire at.

Neither of those conditions causes you to lose your Dex bonus to AC, and therefore neither allows the target to be sneak attacked.

He may be thinking of stunned, which does deny Dex. The monk is your new best friend. Deadeye Shot is the only feat for ranged rogues to take at lvl6. Stick in Rapid Shot before it if you are human, but otherwise, you are just going to be readying actions and hoping your party members hit.

Sorry, I had a chance to look it up. I was thinking of Stunned, Panicked, and Blinded.

Get a melee buddy to Flank him.

Get a melee buddy to Flank him.Flanking only counts if the character is in melee themselves. If he's firing a bow then he's not in melee (or, if he is, he's getting hit a lot more often) and cannot qualify for sneak attack.

Well, there's a feat to feint as a move action...if that works on ranged (not sure) that could work... other than that, I didn't know flanking was only for HtH, thanks for enlightening me.

Feinting only works with a melee attack too.

Feinting also only works on melee attacks.

There was a feat in a Dragon Magazine a few months back in an article specifically for archers.

The feat was called Ranged Feint and let you use your bluff skill to feint with a ranged weapon
