| Lotus Crane04-05-07, 04:47 PM | Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me track down a feat I seem to recall but can't find at a casual glance of my books on hand. It was something that causes all of your attacks of opportunity to be treated as sneak attacks, whether or not you've fulfilled the other normal requirements (flanking or flat-footed). Anybody remember if this feat actually exists, and if so, which book it's in? Thanks to anybody who helps! |
| Tempest Stormwind04-05-07, 04:50 PM | It's an epic feat. Epic Level Handbook. |
| Bantam04-05-07, 04:54 PM | I believe it was the the "Opportunists" article in the Adventurer section from Dragon Magazine 340, page 86. The listing is from the DragonDex http://www.aeolia.net/dragondex/articles-subject.html and I believe one of the feats there is the one you're looking for. |
| Witch04-05-07, 04:54 PM | Tempest is entirely correct. For reference, from the Epic SRD: "] Prerequisites Sneak attack +8d6, opportunist class feature. Benefit Any attack of opportunity you make is considered a sneak attack. |

| Dheran04-06-07, 08:10 PM | You can get a lot of sneak attacks of opportunity pre-Epic, but it takes work. First you need AoOs, and this requires a high DEX mod. You start with the opportunist ability, which you can pick up at Rogue 10. Then add Combat Reflexes (more AoOs: 1 + DEX mod) and Savvy Rogue (opportunist attacks up to your AoO limit) (Complete Scoundrel). Next you need to increase the number of times your attack qualifies for sneak attack damage. There are three ways to do this: Flanking Invisibility Feats Flanking is easy, but it requires teamwork and mobility. It also fails against opponents with Improved Uncanny Dodge. However, flanking works well with the opportunist ability, because you get an AoO when your flanking buddy hits. The Quick trait (Unearthed Arcana), the Clerical Celerity domain, and magic can help boost your movement so you can get into flanking position. Your next bet is Improved Invisibility. That will work against most opponents without Uncanny Dodge or See Invisibility. A good Use Magic Device skill will let you make use of scrolls with this spell. Then get the Telling Blow feat (Players Handbook II) to apply sneak attack damage on any successful critical hit, and a weapon with a large threat range. A +5 keen rapier and the Weapon Finesse feat (to make use of your high DEX) are ideal for this. Forget paying for elemental enhancements (except maybe augment crystals in the Magic Item Compendium -- though the Truedeath Crystal is still a better choice since it lets you sneak attack undead), because most of your damage is going to come from sneak attack dice, and you add nothing if you don't hit. Keen improves the decent threat range of the rapier, and your high DEX with Weapon Finesse and the +5 enhancement gives you the best chance of hitting and confirming the critical. |
| Richmud04-07-07, 06:30 PM | Dragon 340 contains the feat sneak attack of opportunity that is nonepic. Not sure if its meant to replace the epic one or not |
| Dheran04-08-07, 01:15 AM | Yeah, there's a problem with Dragon magazine. It's all listed as "official D&D", but it's published by Paizo Publishing, not WotC. Paizo tends not to be as picky about checking for names already being in use. The official WotC position is that anything they publish which duplicates an existing name is a replacement, and you're supposed to use the most recent one. As far as Paizo goes: who knows? |
| Lotus Crane04-08-07, 02:10 AM | Hmm, after actually seeing the Dragon 340 version though, there's one serious limitation that probably keeps it balanced: it only applies to one AoO per round; not all of them like with the epic version. |
