If an opponent is flat-footed or flanked and provokes an AoO from you, will your attack deal sneak attack damage to him?
I've always assumed that it wouldn't, but it seems like it would make sense.

Thanks in advance, you guys are always a great help.

I see NO reason why it wouldn't. It is very nice to be attacking a guy while invisible, but then he unknowingly tries to move past or through you space, you sure as anything should be able to sneak attack him again. quite the manic of a rouge wouldn't you say?

As long as the proper conditions are met (i.e. the opponent is denied his Dex bonus to AC, or they are flanked), any damaging attack against them can become a sneak attack, including AoOs. Note that you generally won't get this chance against flat-footed opponents, as taking the action that provokes the AoO makes them no longer flat-footed.

There is a skill trick in Complete Scoundrel that allows a character to add their sneak attack damage to any AoO once per encounter, provided they attack with a concealed weapon.

There is nothing I know of that would prevent Sneak Attacks from working on an AoO.

Any attack that meets the SA requirements is an SA, unless the "attack" has specific rules preventing it.

I built an entire character concept around this once.

Base class was Ninja, and I had Combat Reflexes. At low levels, when we'd ambush a group of baddies, I'd ghost step (go invisible), run into the midst of them, and the fighter would jump out and go "booga booga!!!". They'd run to attack him, and provoke AoO's from me. Each one a Sudden Strike (Ninja's SA) because I was invisible. [shrug]

At low levels - this destroyed encounters utterly. Then the DM got pissy and just had us fight undead and plants. :rolleyes:

There is a feat in one of the Dragon magazines that make all AoO sneak attacks. Unfortunately my magz are in a different country ;}

DR343 has "Sneak Attack of Opportunity" but that's just the first AoO per round :)

"Sneak Attack of Opportunity" is also an Epic Feat, is it not? Or did Dragon refer to that?

I'm not familiar with sidestep. is it like invisibility or improved invisibility? If only invisibility you'd only get one sneak attack since you'd be visable.

The Ghost Step Ninja ability makes the ninja invisible. Not like the spell, just invisible for one full round (that is until the ninja's next round) so he can go invisible, attack, and stay invisible until the beginning of the next round. So it's like a one round Improved Invis then (swift action, too). We had a big argument at our gaming table when that one came out.

You know, I'm not sure, I don't have Dragon 343, I just found it in a compilation of 3.5 feats done by crystal keep. But looking over at Paizo, Dragon 343 isn't focusing on epic adventures, so... I'm not sure.
