| Watcher_in_the_mists04-22-08, 03:47 PM | Not quite sure its the right forum to start this thread, but still hope i get an answer! I've recently fully converted my game to 3.5 (still was playing 2nd edition a few months ago) and found something that bugged me with sneak attack. Can sneak attack be done using any weapon (currently the only rogue in my players group is using longsword and shortsword)? If a rogue gets more than one attack per round (for high BAB and for using two-weapon fighting), does he get to apply sneak attack damage on every succesful attack in a given round against a flat-footed opponent? Hoping someone in here can help me out on that one! Thanks in advance |
| LinkHiroOfTime04-22-08, 03:53 PM | Yes and yes. |
| Selgard04-22-08, 03:56 PM | Against flat-footed Or flanked opponents- unless they are crit-immune somehow. (undead, fortification, whatnot). |
| LinkHiroOfTime04-22-08, 04:00 PM | unless they are crit-immune somehow. (undead, fortification, whatnot). You'll find at higher levels A LOT of things are immune to sneak attack, or at least have a chance to negate the extra sneak attack damage, even if you do have them flanked or flat footed. |

If a rogue gets more than one attack per round (for high BAB and for using two-weapon fighting), does he get to apply sneak attack damage on every succesful attack in a given round against a flat-footed opponent? You are technically correct, but... A rogue gets sneak attack on any attack qualifies, and being flat-footed is not the only way to qualify for sneak attack damage. The two main ways to qualify for sneak attack is to either flank your opponent or attack an opponent that's denied their dexterity bonus to AC. Being flat-footed is one way of being denied dexterity to AC, but not their only way. A creature loses it's dexterity bonus to AC against an invisible creature for example, as does being paralyzed. To quote the relevant section... Sneak Attack ...The rogue’s attack deals extra damage any time her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target. |

Interesting... does your recent switch have anything to do with 4e coming out? (Like, you are deliberately staying one edition behind?) |
| Watcher_in_the_mists04-22-08, 04:49 PM | Thanks a lot for the quick answers, it'll definitely makes my rogue player happy. As to the late switch to 3.5, it just took me a while to accept the fact that the system does'nt turn ur game into a madness of munchkinism, its the players and the DM that does. |
| Shadowhowler04-22-08, 09:31 PM | Interesting... does your recent switch have anything to do with 4e coming out? (Like, you are deliberately staying one edition behind?) I didn't switch to 3.5 till about a little over a year and a half ago. There was no need, since my old gameing group where having plenty of fun playing 2.5 (Players Option) and didn't need to switch. Only reason I did switch was because I moved cross country, and couldn't find a game using the system I played. I skipped 3.0 completely. |
