| Slimgauge03-02-08, 10:59 AM | A character's skill points are determined by the character class modified by race and intelligence. For example, from the SRD, for a Paladin (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/paladin.htm) Class Skills The paladin’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Handle Animal (Cha), Heal (Wis), Knowledge (nobility and royalty) (Int), Knowledge (religion) (Int), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), and Sense Motive (Wis). Skill Points at 1st Level: (2 + Int modifier) ×4. Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 2 + Int modifier. In addition, according to the SRD section on Race (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/races.htm#humans), if the Paladin is a human Humans 4 extra skill points at 1st level and 1 extra skill point at each additional level. |
| BugHunter03-02-08, 11:03 AM | The first thing you need to do is look at the class you want to play or level up in; there is a section called "Class Skills" at the bottom of the list of skills will be two lines that look something like this. Skill Points at 1st Level:(4 + Int modifier) ×4. Skill Points at Each Additional Level:4 + Int modifier. The first line is only used for the first level. The second line is used when taking a new level in the same class or when you decide to take a second class. To see how this works assume a first level human barbarian with a 10 Int +0 mod. (4+0) x4 = 16 +4 for being human And second level would look like this. (4+0) = 4 +1 for being human |
| Kouk03-02-08, 06:51 PM | Slimgauge, your quote about humans has a stray asterisk, which may make it appear as if you multiply by 4 rather than just adding 4. Skill Points are determined by your Class, your actual Intelligence modifier (meaning magical items or spells which boost Intelligence don't give you more skill points) and whether you are a human or not. If you later gain permanent points of Intelligence (from your extra ability point gained every 4 levels) your skill points from then on can use your new modifier, but you will not gain retroactive skill points for the time when your character was "dumber". |
