She also has eldritch spear, and chain. I'm not suggesting that each would be able to be maximized 3/day from just one feat. But would she be able to cast 2 eldritch blasts, and one eldritch chain and have them all be maximized with this one feat? |
| Oliver D'Argent04-15-07, 03:56 PM | Assuming that you took Maximize Spell-Like Ability (Eldritch Blast), you will eventually be able to maximize any combination of Eldritch Blast with a blast shape and/or eldritch essence. Since the errata, the basic Eldritch Blast is always considered the equivalent of a first level spell. As part of invoking the Eldritch Blast, you can add up to one blast shape and one eldritch essence to the blast. Each blast shape and eldritch essence also has a level-equivalent. If you add both a blast shape and an eldritch essence, only the higher level-equivalent counts for determining the new level-equivalent of the blast. Examples: Eldritch Blast (1st) + Eldritch Spear (2nd, blast shape) = 2nd level-equivalent. Eldritch Blast (1st) + Eldritch Spear (2nd, blast shape) + Brimstone Blast (3rd, eldritch essence) = 3rd level-equivalent. Eldritch Blast (1st) + Eldritch Chain (4th, blast shape) + Brimstone Blast (3rd, eldritch essence) = 4th level-equivalent. Since both Eldritch Spear and Eldritch Chain are blast shapes, you cannot use both of them on the same blast. The level-equivalent of the blast you can maximize is tied directly to your Warlock level (one-half your Warlock level, minus two). At 6th level, you can maximize up to a 1st level-equivalent. At 8th level, you can maximize up to a 2nd level-equivalent. At 10th level, you can maximize up to a 3rd level-equivalent. At 12th level, you can maximize up to a 4th level-equivalent. At 14th level, you can maximize up to a 5th level-equivalent. At 16th level, you can maximize up to a 6th level-equivalent. At 18th level, you can maximize up to a 7th level-equivalent. At 20th level, you can maximize up to a 8th level-equivalent. You can use all three of your daily maximizes on up to the highest level-equivalent you can affect - so if you are a 12th level Warlock, you could maximize Eldritch Chain three times a day if you wanted to. I hope this is helpful. |
| Nezkrul04-15-07, 09:09 PM | why is maximize half - 2, when empower is half - 2, and quicken is half - 4? |
| Oliver D'Argent04-15-07, 09:18 PM | why is maximize half - 2, when empower is half - 2, and quicken is half - 4? Only the designers know for sure. |
| ClementWillowbreaker04-16-07, 08:13 PM | why is maximize half - 2, when empower is half - 2, and quicken is half - 4? Because Rich Baker didn't realize that the number subtracted is supposed to be the normal metamagic feat's level adjustment, making the CL required for metaSLAs equal to the CL a sorcerer could first apply the equivalent metamagic to a spell of the same level as the SLA. |

| Oliver D'Argent04-17-07, 07:33 AM | Quicken SLA + Maximize SLA + Empower SLA + Energy Admixture + Vilolate SLA = Your weapon of Choice Except that you can't use Energy Admixture with any of a Warlock's abilities because it requires the use of a higher spell slot (which Warlocks don't have). Even with no spell slot increase, Energy Substitution (the prerequisite for Energy Admixture) is questionable and would require DM permission for a Warlock to take - the Sudden family of metamagic feats are the only metamagic feats that have official approval for use with spell-like abilities. |
