| Gagnrath03-03-07, 06:42 PM | Ok I just read these and am getting ready to use them for the first time does anyone else think that having a 3d6 firespell that can hit a 5' radius spread at will is a bit much? the cold and electric ones are allmost as bad and as far as I can tell no errata. Or am I misreading/overestimating the value of these. |
| HomebrewedMonster03-03-07, 10:34 PM | Look at their range. |
| DarkRhystar03-03-07, 10:40 PM | Or am I misreading/overestimating the value of these. Compare them to real spells you could be casting. They're nice for the Energizer Bunny/Warlock effect where one can keep going and going, however except for a very narrow time period (at lower levels) they're inferior to pretty much most spell options you probably have. |
| Leress03-04-07, 12:53 AM | You are better off using your feat for metamagic or item creation. |
| Gagnrath03-04-07, 12:54 AM | The range is 30' for the most part which isn't that bad. thing is I'm not giving up the spell I keep the spell and can still cast it. I can just more or less at will lay down a 3 or more dice of damage on an enemy for the cost of one feet. It seems like it wouldn't be particularly useful over about 15th lvl but from 5 to 15th wow it can be pretty nice especially for deciding weather or not to cast when low on spells.... The other one for dim dooring all over the room is pretty nice and the cold one would seem like it does a fair amount of damage by itself and sneak attack for those arcane tricksters out there. I guess I'm seeing it as making my wizards not have to choose between taking lots of helpful little spells with a few damage cannons or to load up for combat. Nope I'll be able to have the cannons when I have to use them all the nice little stuff and the ability lay down moderate damage anytime. |
| Vegepygmy03-04-07, 03:35 AM | Try them out and then see how you feel about them. Reserve feats look great on paper, but IMO aren't so amazing in actual play. That's not to say they suck or anything; they can definitely be nice. But I don't think they're "broken." |
| Gagnrath03-05-07, 04:31 AM | Used one as a 6th lvl caster for the first time today the fire one was useful and beat the living daylights out of using my crossbow for the lesser enemies we faced. 3d6 at 6th lvl (fireball memorized) was about the same as my 1st lvl rays with the same range (aprox) and also allowed me to use the lowerl lvl spells for buffs /other utility spells. Sadly I'm not goign to be able to use the character any time soon because my DM decided to wipe out 1/2 the party in an extrememly lame way. Party walks into a temple in town (that is being attacked by undead (the town) a cleric pops up from behind the alter without saying a word and casts circle of death caster lvl 13 on the 6th lvl party he also happens to roll 34 hit dice of lethatlity on the party killing one of the fighters the cleric and the artificer (save was only 19 the rogue my wizard and the other fighter lived.) effectively ending the campaign before it started. |
