| Paitlan07-06-07, 03:59 AM | Can a Mage with Spellcraft identify a Divine spell or can he only identify Arcane spell? |
| Lucas Blackstone07-06-07, 04:18 AM | I've seen people run it as two separate skills, Spellcraft Arcane and Spellcraft Divine, but it's not the way it works pre-house rule. |
| Banatine07-06-07, 04:21 AM | anyone with spellcraft can identify any apell. Its a representation of what you know/sense/feel about magic in general. Spells cast by clerics or sorcerers are identical after the effect starts. |
| Loki565407-06-07, 11:41 AM | I agree with Banatine. And I'll add the thought: You don't have to be a spellcaster to use Spellcraft. Anyone can take ranks in it and use it to identify any spell they see. Why should those classes that have it as a class skill be penalized by restricting it to a certain flavor of magic? |
| Dheran07-07-07, 08:08 AM | You don't have to be a spellcaster to use Spellcraft. Most assuredly. I had a Rogue character who maximized his Use Magic Device skill so he could sneak attack with touch spells from wands. He took exactly 1 (cross-class) rank in Spellcraft and selected it as one of his skills for Skill Mastery. This, a 16 INT, a Headband of Intellect +6, and the Magical Aptitude and Savvy Rogue feats gave him a guaranteed Spellcraft minimum of 21, enough to identify 6th-level spells "on the fly". But if he needed it, a CL 10 wand of Divine Insight let him bump this up to a guaranteed check of 36 anytime in a 10-hour span -- enough to identify 9th level spells after a saving throw, which is pretty much the maximum non-Epic abilty for the skill. So you can see that Spellcraft can be extremely useful with no caster levels of any sort required. |
