| MikEye04-17-07, 03:37 PM | Can a lawful nuetral cleric of st cuthebert (domains destruction and strength) take the feat spontaneous wounder? The PHB states that clerics of st cuthbert must channel positive energy, but with this feat can you spontaneously cast inflict spells? I cant see why not. Pre requisites are any non good and I believe the ability to turn/rebuke undead. My colleagues do not think you can do this. What do you guys think? |
| Puca04-17-07, 04:01 PM | Channeling positive energy and casting spontaneous cure spells are linked, but you can still do that. You would just get this ability too. And significantly, it is limited to a number of times per day. There is nothing in the text that says you cant. Neutral clerics are common enough that if you couldnt do both spontaneous cures and inflicts with this feat, Id think it would have some limiting text. The fact that clerics of St. Cuthbert "must channel positive energy" isnt changed by this feat. I dont think they, your colleagues, are right. |
| MikEye04-17-07, 04:03 PM | Im just not sure, its a little vague |
| Puca04-17-07, 04:13 PM | I dont know. I think youre bringing the confusion with you. 1) Can you qualify for this feat if you already possess the ability to spontaneously cast cure spells and channel positive energy? Yes, you can. 2) Does the text of the feat say it interacts in any way with that ability? No. (And if it did interact, would you expect the feat description to say how? I would.) What is the exact wording of the restrictions for clerics of St. Cuthbert? I believe it only says that they must channel positive energy and spontaneously cast cure spells. 3) After taking this feat, can they still do that? Yes, they can. Where is the vagueness? |
| Mister_Sinister04-17-07, 08:51 PM | Simply put, do not intrude rules text upon flavour text, and vice versa. 'They must channel positive energy' with their spontaneous casting does not mean they cannot channel negative energy at all. This feat represents specialised training that some clerics undergo which allows them to do both. |
| BlakesTiger04-18-07, 01:33 AM | The prerequisites are: Wis 13 Non-good alignment Ability to cast Inflict spells A Lawful Neutral Cleric with the Destruction Domain certainly qualifies. Turning ability is not part of the equation. A Lawful Neutral Favored Soul with Inflict Light Wounds on his spells known list could take this feat. |
