Greets all, have searched about for an answer to this, but didn't get any nibbles that actually spelled it out clearly.

When using Stone Power, do you gain the temporary hit points per attack you make, or do you gain a one-off pool of them when you empower it, irrespective of how many times you then attack before your next turn?

And if the latter option is the case, could some learned-type then explain how so many builds talk of a Level 20 Crusader maxing out Steely Resolve at 30 hit point of damage per round, and then 'dealing with it all' with Stone Power . . ?

This lower-level Crusader/ToB noobie is somewhat confused . . .

You accept the penalty (which applies to all attacks a la Power Attack) and gain the temp HP accordingly exactly once per round, although the penalty applies on all attacks.

Read the feat; it's actually quite clear.

The "deal with it" trick is actually something closer to "reduce damage something fierce". You take the hit, and some of the damage flows into your delayed damage pool. You Stone Power, and when the damage you took last round drains, it hits the temp HP first. It's sort of like Damage Reduction that works on every form of attack, but is per-round instead of per attack.

It's not perfect, but it's still VERY good at preventing a huge portion of the damage you take. What's left can be dealt with via normal DR, Devoted Spirit healing strikes, and similar. A hit that hits you is a hit that doesn't hit your allies, and you're equipped to take hits like no on else.
