| LordFaustus01-31-08, 03:27 PM | Hi, I am new to the forum and wanted to know if you canhelp me with something. I am trying to create a Conjurer Wizard (Summoning creatures to do the dirty work). I only found so far one feat that comes in handy, donīt remember itīs name but it gives your creatures +4str and +4con. Is there another feat you think might help me with this? Best, LordFaustus. |
| Thor_Axe01-31-08, 03:33 PM | That feat is Augment Summoning. You can always ultra specialize. There was a class in Complete Scoundrel called Malconvoker that made good characters really good at summoning evil creatures. |
| Hsien01-31-08, 04:03 PM | Summon Elemental ( Reserve) Really handy for short term use, trapfinding, door opening, looking around corners etc..and a handy way to give your allies or other summoned creatures flank. Imbued Summoning PHII |
| Chaos_Redefined01-31-08, 04:08 PM | Frostburn has Beckon the Frozen, which grants your summons an extra 1d6 cold damage and the cold subtype, if you wish to summon them with that. There is Rashemi Elemental Summoning from one of the Faerun books (can't remember which off the top of my head) which applies some rather nice templates to all earth and air elementals. There is the Master Specialist prestige class and the Malconvoker prestige class, which grant all kinds of stuff to your summons. There is the Mindbender and Paragnostic Apostle dips, which grant you telepathy, and grant your summons fast healing, respectively. Both of those are granted at first level, meaning you have more time to spend taking Master Specialist and Malconvoker levels. |

Alienist!! All your summons can True Strike 1/day! Full spellcasting progression and requires that exact feat to qualify (Augment Summoning). And you get to summon weird alien monsters! Even your familiar turns into one (with True Strike also!) A plan with no flaws! Oh yes, you go slightly mad. A plan with no flaws!! Well you get taken away by aliens at the end of your life. A plan with no flaws!!! Seriously though, that is a very effective summoner-type class. It's all gain, no loss over wizard levels, if you were planning on taking Augment Summoning anyway. Oh wait, you were asking about feats. A plan with no flaws!!!! |
| mtbOgre01-31-08, 07:05 PM | In case you missed it: The Conjurer's Handbook. (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=918686&) However depending on your level you might consider going with a Druid for a Summoner rather than a wizard. Druids have some advantages as summoners particularly at lower-mid levels. There is another thread out there called The Summoners Handbook (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=883099) which is pretty decent general info about summoning and if for no other reason has some nice links on the first page. |

| tyrecian02-01-08, 08:24 PM | Also Clerics are fun and have the PrC (core ;P) Thermaturgist which gets considerable discounts to heavy summons later, and acquires an angelic cohort! in core, augment summoning is the only one, and it requires focus conjuration as its pre-req, which can be lame. However, usually used to get into PrC's that are summoner friendly. a bit of advice, if you are starting out at low levels... The rod of lesser extension is your best friend (it doubles the duration of 1st-3rd level spells, great for summons and buffs on yourself). Enlarge can also be a fun buff to put on your summons for effect at low levels. At 5th level, the giant centipede is alot of fun :) |
| Bullet0632002-12-08, 10:09 PM | In Unearthed Arcana under speacialist wizard varients, take rapid summoning instead of summon familar, all your summon monster spells are now 1 action instead of 1 round spells and the Summon Undead spells get you better damage dealing ceatures |
| LSMFT02-13-08, 12:48 PM | With Master Specialist, you get to the point where your Summons spells are reduced to a much more favorable casting time. (I can’t recall if that is their Minor or Moderate Esoterica.) That’s really key. Augment Summoning has a less than stellar, but workable, prereq, Spell Focus (conjuration) but that’s required for Master Specialist as well. Malconvoker gives some nice things, but you lose a casting level. And I try to avoid that as much as possible. The Imbued Summoning feat is nice, but at +1 spell level, you’re summoning less capable creatures to give the benefit of a buff spell when they arrive. (Though, with Metamagic School Focus, that is not much of a problem. Your number of necessary feats are really starting to add up though.) Alienist. Um, no. The pseudonatural template is nice. When your summoned creatures die as quickly as they do, giving them True Strike is sweet. But…you replace the celestial or fiendish templates with the pseudonatural. Meh, no biggie. Pseudonatural is better most of the time. The pseudonatural template is not applied to all your summons though, just those that had fiendish or celestial before. Not a problem except you lose the ability to any non-pseudonatural creature, so those creatures that had neither template before: Couatls, Avorals, Babaus, Bebilith, Barbed Devils, Bone Devils, Djinn, Elementals, Hellcats, Invisible Stalkers, etc. etc., none of them can be summoned by Alienists. The class has cool flavor, but if I want to be a summoner, I’m not cutting a quarter of the creatures I could chose to summon off my list. |
| dman1123502-13-08, 02:05 PM | It's the major, so only 3/day. But overall it is a nice class for specialists. Cloudy Conjuration is nice, it's from CMage. It also helps Spell Focus (conjuration) be useful as a prereq, since now it's used for two feats and a class. Imbued Summon is nice, especially when used with great buffs, like Greater Mighty Whallop, or Displacement, or something else. Summon Elemental is also nice, if only for the +1 CL. That's what I got searching Realms Help. |
