I'm thinking of catching or buying a mouse for my Raptorian Beguiler and teaching him various tricks useful for being a sneaky scoundrel. My problem is that I can't find an entry for a mouse in the MM. Should I just use the rat stats or is there an official mouse entry in another book?

Mice are about 1/2 as big as Rats.

I would start it out as Rats, but do the following:

1. Change it from Tiny to Dimunitive (adjust the size modifers for ac, to hit, hide, etc.)

2. Lower Strength to 1, from 2, raise Dex from 15 to 17.

3. Reduce bite damage from 1d3-4 to 1d2-5 (no real net change - but includes a modificaition to strength) )

Net result is pretty much same damage, but a little bit better AC and a little bit better to hit.

Use a Ferrett instead.
They are naturally sneaky cleptomaniacs...and occasionally wear hockey masks and use chainsaws.

Thank you for the input Tarkin. So there are no actual mouse stats I take it?

Look in the DMG. there is a listing of animals that can be used as alt-familiars and I think one of them is a shrew. just use that. Or, in the monster manual 1, most of the animal stats state what other animals you can substitute them for. Hope this helps.

Found it. There's a mouse familiar stat block in the DMG. Just have to bring the int down to 2 and he's ready to go.

I think you may also find this link useful, particularly the stalk "trick" and maby even the ambush. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031125a

Not much else is useful to a mouse but if you use something like a poisonous snake in conjunction to the mouse (hope it doesn't get eaten.... :hides: ) you have a quick scout that won't draw much attention and a potential harasser.

Well isn't that handy. I didn't know they did an article with more tricks in it. Thanks for pointing me toward it.
