| Dog_O_War08-28-07, 11:20 PM | Welcome all challengers. This thread is to see what crazy fighters of epic proportions you sell-swords have come up with. The rules are simple: Build a 20th level fighter (no prestige classes). Use 32 point buy stat method. No level adjusted races. The only feats that are allowed are ones from official DnD books. Keep it 3.5 (no iajuitsu). 150,000gp limit; only magic items listed from official books (this is to keep things reasonable). Post it with a quick description of their fighting style and tactics. Have fun! To start this off, I will periodically lay down a few builds that have stricken me over the years. Gursh Bloodcrier - 165 hit points (average) CN Male Half-Orc Fighter20 Str: 20 +5 (+2 half-orc, +2 gauntlets of ogre power) Dex: 19 +4 (+3 level increase) Con: 16 +3 (+2 level increase) Int: 10 -- (-2 half-orc) Wis: 10 -- Cha: 6 -2 (-2 half-orc) Feats 1st - Weapon Focus (Kukri) - PHB F 1 - Improved Initiative - PHB F 2 - Two-Weapon Fighting - PHB 3rd - Rapid Assualt - ToB F 4 - Weapon Sepcialization (Kukri) - PHB 6th - Martial Study: Tiger Claw (Claw at the Moon) - ToB F 6 - Improved Two-Weapon Fighting - PHB F 8 - Greater Weapon Focus (Kukri) - PHB 9th - Melee Weapon Mastery (slashing) - PHB II F 10 - Martial Stance (Blood in the Water) - ToB 12th - Martial Study: Tiger Claw (Sudden Leap) - ToB F 12 - Greater Weapon Specialization (Kukri) - PHB F 14 - Greater Two-Weapon Fighting - PHB 15th - Slashing Flurry - PHB II F 16 - Two-Weapon Rend - PHB II 18th - Weapon Supremacy (Kukri) - PHB II F 18 - Martial Study: Tiger Claw (Pouncing Charge) - ToB F 20 - Blade Meditation (Tiger Claw) - ToB Equipment: 2 +4 keen Kukris, gauntlets of ogre power, boots of speed, cape of montebank. Important Skills: Jump +20 Gursh tends to Rush his opponents with blinding speed, unleashing a flurry of blows that tear his opponents to shreds. If he is the first to act, then he typically uses his Pouncing Charge maneuver in conjuntion with his boots of speed to quickly close with the enemy; if he goes second, he begins the battle with his Claw at the Moon maneuver (assuming the enemy closed in). Attacks (standard): Kukri +28 melee, Kukri +23 melee - 1d4+15 (15-20/x2) Attacks (full): Kukri +26 melee, Kukri +26 melee, Kukri +21 melee, Kukri +16 melee, Kukri +16 melee (main hand) - 1d4+15 (15-20/x2); Kukri +26 melee, Kukri +21 melee, Kukri +16 melee (off hand) - 1d4+12 (15-20/x2) If Gursh is allowed the first action... Attack (Pouncing Charge-full): 4x Kukri +29 melee, 2x Kukri +24 melee, 3x Kukri +19 melee; Main hand - 1d4+1d6+16 (15-20/x2), Off hand - 1d4+1d6+13 (15-20/x2) +1d6+7 for every successful main+off handed attack (once per foe per round) Blood in the Water Stance - for every critical hit Gursh gains a +1 to attack and damage, this (cumulative!) bonus fades if no critical strikes have been scored for one minute. |
| jaelis08-29-07, 08:47 AM | Typically, this kind of thing goes on the Classes board. Not that you can't put it here, you just might get more takers there. (You might also peruse some of the builds on the Char Op board.) |
| Dog_O_War08-29-07, 01:21 PM | I thought about putting it in the classes section, but decided to throw it here because it's for only one class, and it is mainly the feat/skill combination that is the focus. Rowina, Grandmaster of the Dagger - 105 hit points (average) CG Female Half-Elf Fighter20 Str: 14 +2 Dex: 18 +4 (+4 level) Con: 10 -- Int: 14 +2 Wis: 16 +3 (+1 level) Cha: 12 +1 Feats 1st - Combat Focus - PHB II F 1 - Weapon Focus (Dagger) - PHB F 2 - Dodge - PHB 3rd - Combat Stability - PHB II F 4 - Weapon Specialization (Dagger) - PHB 6th - Combat Defence - PHB II F 6 - Combat Expertise - PHB F 8 - Greater Weapon Focus (Dagger) - PHB 9th - Combat Vigor - PHB II F 10 - Melee Weapon Mastery (slashing) - PHB II 12th - Melee Weapon Mastery (piercing) - PHB II F 12 - Greater Weapon Specialization (Dagger) - PHB F 14 - Ranged Weapon Mastery (piercing) - PHB II 15th - War Devotion - CCh F 16 - Slashing Flurry - PHB II 18th - Weapon Supremacy (Dagger) - PHB II F 18 - Driving Attack - PHB II F 20 - Combat Strike - PHB II Equipment: +5 defending returning Dagger, +1 Dagger, Luckstone, +2 Cloak of Resistance, +2 Studded Leather Armour, Gloves of Arrow Snaring, Cloak and Boots of Elvenkind, Ring of Protection +2 Important Skills: Sense Motive +11, Bluff +12, Tumble +16 Taking up a defensive position, Rowina prefers to whittle her opponents down over time. She typically uses her Combat Expertise and fights defensively. If she is feeling particularily confident that day, she will use her driving attack and dance around her fallen foe, throwing her dagger as she moves. Attacks (standard): Dagger +26 melee, Dagger +21 melee - 1d4+13 (19-20/x2) Attacks (full): Dagger +26 melee, Dagger +26 melee, Dagger +21 melee, Dagger +16 melee, Dagger +16 melee - 1d4+13 (19-20/x2) Rowina in a typical fight... Attack (full): 3x Dagger +17 melee, Dagger +12 melee, Dagger +7 melee - 1d4+13 (19-20/x2); Bonus to AC: +11 (+5 combat expertise, +3 fighting defensively, +2 dodge, +1 weapon supremacy) This may not seem like a very 'powerful' build, but it has what most builds often do not; flexability. Oh, and good luck disarming her, she has a +43 to resist it. |
| tarkin08-29-07, 01:54 PM | How are you defining the winner? My typical build for what you describe is a two weapon fighter, using spiked chain and armor spikes (legal but abusive combo in my opinion) that trips and disarms and sunders, leaving you on the ground with no weapon, and if you have any love for your PC, usually crying. No he can't do gazillion damage in a round, but chances are you won't be able to do much damage to you before you surrender to his awesome mightyness. Charging is tough when you take AoO's and are prone. He he he he he. Also, how far away you begin can sometimes let others survive his attack. If you have them starting 200 ft away (i.e. roman colliseum battle) then even if the other guy wins init, my guy will still trip him and win the battle. |

Monk with Spring Attack and Prone Attack wraps rock. |
| Dog_O_War08-30-07, 02:49 AM | How are you defining the winner? There is no winner, really. Think of this as more of a car show, where people come together to better appreciate the love of a common item, to be inspired, and to inspire new creations. You know what? I guess there is a winner (YOU) when you see something you like and emulate it, or when your creation is appraised. This here is actually a character I play; currently he is 4th level. The rest is his projected status Yeager Stormhold LN Male Human Fighter20 Str: 14 +2 Dex: 16 +3 (+1 level) Con: 14 +2 Int: 14 +2 Wis: 13 +1 (+1 level) Cha: 13 +1 (+3 level) Feats Human - Educated (history, nobility&royalty) - Faerun 1st - Improved Unarmed Strike - PHB F 1 - Weapon Focus (Bastard Sword) - PHB F 2 - Two-Weapon Fighting - PHB 3rd - Improved Grapple - PHB F 4 - Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword) - PHB 6th - Negotiator - PHB F 6 - Close Quarters Fighting - CWr F 8 - Power Attack - PHB 9th - Combat Focus, Least Legacy (Black-Thorned Rose) - WoL F 10 - Combat Intuition - PHB II 11th - Lesser Legacy (Black-Thorned Rose) - WoL 12th - Flying Kick - CAd F 12 - Leap Attack - CAd F 14 - Dodge - PHB 15th - Combat Defense - PHB II F 16 - Combat Stability - PHB II 17th - Greater Legacy (Black-Thorned Rose) - WoL 18th - Pin Shield - CWr F 18 - Combat Vigor - PHB II F 20 - Combat Strike - PHB II Equipment: (this would be way over the gp limit. I'm just going to say what he would have, in one form or another) The Black-Thorned Rose (Bastard Sword), Spiked Chainshirt, Locked Gauntlet, Spiked Gauntlet. Important Skills: Diplomacy, Sense Motive, Intimidate, Jump, Climb, Swim, Balance, Hide, Knowledge (Nobility&Royalty), Knowledge (History), Listen, Move Silently, Ride, Spot - all at low ranks as fighters get crap skill points, But at least I've got ranks in them (the average is something like 6.0 at 20th) Attack (standard): Bastard Sword(mw) +23 melee - 1d10+3 (19-20/x2), or Grapple +27 melee, or Unarmed Strike(mw) +22 melee - 1d3+2 (20/x2), or Armour Spikes(mw) +22 melee - 1d6+2 (20/x2) I won't go into a full attack as Yeager tends to utilize whatever is handy at the time, often flying in with a kick on the charge, then a two handed power attack with the bastard sword in the following round, coupled with grapples and off hand swipes here and there. This character is a campaign character; these are the options most able to keep him alive. If you're wondering what the Black-Thorned Rose is; The ancestral sword of his family (no it is not a katana), it was taken from his grandfather when his family was forced to flee the country many years ago due to political alliances. When the blade is reclaimed from the occupying noble of the former Stormhold estate, Yeager will have obtained his families' legacy. Statistics The Black-Thorned Rose is an adamantine Bastard Sword of unique design. Made of braided strands of adamantine, these periodically end as jutting ridges all the way up the blade, to form 'thorns'. In the pommel is a rose encased in a clear red resin. The blade itself has been fire tempered and blacked to give a most imposing look. Through advances in legacy(levels) the blade will eventually become keen, wounding, and torturous(II). It's legacy abilities will include bonuses to cha based skills (diplomacy and intimidate), the ability to cause fear, and to heal the bearer apon con drain. Torturous is a weapon ability from the Ghostwalk campaign setting. So now that you've seen what I usually deal with, make, and come up with, post some of yours! |
