Howdy all,

Question(s):

1) Is it possible for a sorcerer to learn to apply his meta-magic feats without the additional casting time penalty?

2) If so, what feat route is required?

Appplication:
I've just leveled my beguiler to 6 and am really happy with the stay the hand spell, which allows me, as an immediate action, to force an opponent who directly targets me to target someone else. It's juicy right now in that a second level spell is the most powerful I can cast so the DC is adequate for baddies. But as you know, as I level, the DC for a 2nd level spell becomes less and less likely to succeed. Hence the reasoning for my question. I'd like to apply the feat Heighten Spell to stay the hand so even at high levels I can use it effectively.

Complete Mage has a lvl9+ feat for removing the increase in casting time (for one metafeat?), and Races of the Dragon has an easier one for Dragonblooded casters (or maybe this is the one that only works for one?).

Complete Mage has a feat called Rapid Metamagic, which eliminates the increase in casting time. It requires 12 ranks in Spellcraft, so you'll have to wait until 9th level.

There is an alternate class ability in PHB2 that allows a Sorcerer to use metamagic without increasing the required time instead of gaining a Familiar.

But that only helps out your Sorcerer spells, and the OP is instead using a Beguiler.

I was providing an add'l answer to this question . . . but now I am confused as to why a Beguiler is involved in the original post.

Take a look at the section labeled Application:. That's where the OP discusses a 6th-level beguiler.

There is a feat in complete arcane that allows a spontaneous caster to prepare spells like a wizard which allows you to eliminate the extra time if you prepare a metamagic spell ahead of time. And of course the Sudden Metamagic feats add no time to spontaneous casters. Also if a higher save DC is your goal Spell Focus (enchantment) is probably a better choice as it helps many of your spells.

I am aware of that, but the question he asks is for a Sorcerer.
