In did not see a thread on this so I thought I would start one.

Reserve Feat

Touch of Healing
Prerequisites : Ability to cast 2nd-level spells
Benefit : Heal 3 points of damage per level of the highest-level
healing spell you have available to cast.

So what do you all think of this gem. I am a bit shocked that they actually took the leap, and I think it will change the encounter/day dynamic quite a bit.

What do you all think

I'm sure there's some kind of limitation on how many times you can use it. Either regarding how many times total, on one person, or something else.

I dont think so as it is a reserve feat, which has no limitation, because that is the idea with them.

It strikes me as wildly overpowered at first, but then no.
All it do is to heal a party sloooooowly, between fights.
From my point of view: its a good feat, certainely worth it, but it has no use in a combat.

If we break it down by level:
(Assuming you have a heal spell of max spell level)
clr lvl heal per use cure spell (average)
1 3 5,5
2 3 6,5
3 6 12
4 6 13
5 9 18,5
6 9 19,5
7 12 25
8 12 26
9 15
10 15
11 18 110
12 18 120
13 21
14 21
15 24
16 24
17 27
18 27
19 30
20 30

Someone else can do more math, this is just to show my point.
If some else do more math, remember vigor spells.

It's the reverse of the "deal 1d6/spell level" damage reserve feats from complete mage. (Average on 1d6 is 3.5.)

Personally, I think reserve feats are a terrible idea, but if WotC's going to be posting them... at the very least this is letting people know that unlimited out-of-combat healing isn't anywhere near as bad as people think it is.

yeah, I agree this does show that unlimited healing aint so bad... and I have been thinking that for a few months now, I have been cooking up a new magic system, and it will involve some unlimited healing.

One sidenote, to use this feat it will require a cleric to actually memorize a cure spell.

Why? Reserve feats (usually) only require the character to have the appropriate spells available to cast, and a cleric who channels positive energy always has a healing spell available (unless he uses up all of his available daily spell slots).

How about...

Lesser Revitilization
Cleric 1
targets: 1 per 2 caster levels
Targets regain all lost hitpoints at the rate of 1 per minute, up to a maxium of 10 hit points per caster level. Any hitpoints lost during the spell's duration are not restored.

Follows the pattern of the vigor spells for the higher level versions.

Interesting, didnt really look at it that way, but I guess you are correct.

With this feat, all a Cleric or Druid needs to do is keep one healing spell prepared. How they use their other spells really doesn't matter. If there was any need to ponder whether or not to use a buffing spell or sacrifice it in order to heal a party member, it's now completely gone...

I know wands of cure light wounds and lesser vigor are already available for almost no gp, but they're still a drain on the party's resources.

If the feat cannot be used to heal someone beyond half their max hp (like the Dragon Shaman's aura), it would seem a bit more balanced to me...

As was pointed out in the Future Releases part of the boards, a cleric doesn't even need to keep a healing spell prepared. He can cast healing spells spontaneously (at least, if he is not evil aligned). I also wonder what this does in combination with the "Spontaneous Healer" feat.

On the same thread, there was also this:

Calm down, folks. As several of you have mentioned, you haven't seen the feat in its entirety yet. Don't judge it until you do.

Mouseferatu (Ari Marmell), being one of the authors, might be trying to give us a hint that there are some limits. Of course, he doesn't want to tell us whether it is a hint. ;)

I know a cleric just need to keep one spell uncast; I was just trying to point out the imbalance if the feat would actually be printed as is suggested in the table.

Some news on this topic: someone at ENWorld ( this (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=195732&page=3) thread, post 96 and on for the discussion) pointed out that it 'only' allows you to heal people up to half their max hp.

I'm still a bit sceptical about the feat, but that's at least a bit better...

Too bad, I was kinda hoping they would do something revolutionary.

Maybe we can get an improved touch of healing feat that lets you go to full.

I think that it's okay in principle, but I think that it might be reduced from 3 to maybe 1 or 2 per level.

Well it's not a gem, more like colored glass. It look pretty but it is not worth the price.

Wouldn't the most this could heal per use is 27 hp (3*9) since it is based off the level of spell that is reserved?

If it only works up to half HP, then it's not a problem at all. The dragon shaman from the PHB II has an aura that grants fast healing, but up to a max of half the PC's total HP. This gives you out-of-combat healing that doesn't use up resources, but it won't keep the PCs at full health. It's a nice way to stretch the resources a bit without going nuts.

I like the idea.

Besides, it's not that hard to get unlimited healing anyway. Just off the top of my head, the Dread Necromancer's Charnal Touch ability (Heroes of Horror) and Tomb Tainted Soul feat (Libris Mortis) combo comes to mind.

Yes, the most you could heal with this feat is 27 hp per touch. However, you could use the touch as much as you'd like, without any limit to the number of uses per day.

If the feat wouldn't have the 50% option, as mentioned on ENworld, this would mean a cleric/druid/bard/ranger/paladin/... could heal up their party before almost every encounter, taking hit points completely out of the picture as a depleting resource.

I agree, healing you to 1/2 max is not a big deal.

I also think, that if that is the case, then to paraphrase tempest:

"the very least this is letting people know that unlimited out-of-combat healing upto 1/2 your max isn't bad."

Which would of course imply that unlimited out of combat healing above 1/2 your max IS significantly worse than Tempest thinks it is.
