Normal: when using a tower shield take the attack roll normal penalty. Special: Fighters can select this feat as a bonus feat:rolleyes: . so my question is this has WOTC released some kind of feat like this , if not how do you like it:)?? Btw real Iceman helped me alot with this feat:)
Moribund 02-27-07, 09:02 AM	You would need to indicate how much damage a bash with tower shield does. Most of WotC's feats relating to tower shields are based on increasing the defensive value of the feat as opposed to taking away the attack penalty. That said I don't often see tower shields used in games, though taking away the associated attack penalty would go a long way towards making them useful.
Thalspar 02-27-07, 09:14 AM	ABOUT TIME when thinking about it the tower shield is great and with this one it is complete. yeah i know it has HUGE ARMOR CHECK PENALITY but it has against that cover. all tanker who doesn't give a dam about the penality this is a godsgift.
obrysii 02-27-07, 09:24 AM	The tower shield was useful in 3.0, when it granted Cover (and therefore by association, a huge AC bonus and reflex save bonus). Now it's not worth the attack penalty.

You are avoiding a -2 attack roll penalty and being allowed to shield bash with a shield you normally couldn't shield bash with (albeit at a -2 penalty). I suggest shield bash damage for a Tower Shield at 1d6, spiked 1d8 (if you house rule that you can put spikes on a Tower Shield).
gullas 02-27-07, 10:18 AM	Yeah I was thinkig of using 1d8 instead of 1d6 as the damage for shield bashing with a tower shield :) .... mabey this feat would cut down the check penalty about 50% when using a tower shield also:) ?
jaelis 02-27-07, 11:30 AM	Just removing the -2 penalty would be a fine feat. I wouldn't add anything else.

And I would not suggest going higher than 1d6 on a regular bash (unspiked; d8 spiked if house ruled) due to preserving the order of damage from light to heavy to tower shield. Most feats do 1 major thing, or 2 moderate things or 3-4 minor things. Saving yourself a -2 attack roll penalty is definitely not a minor thing, as it would require 2x the Weapon Focus feat to alleviate or a +2 Str bonus.

Weight 30 lb. Provides "cover as a tower shield does. By giving up your attacks for the round, you gain total cover. The shield does not, however, provide cover against targeted spells; a spellcaster can target the shield. Since it is made of lighter material than a tower shield, you only take a -1 penalty on attack rolls while wielding a hide shield in combat. You cannot bash with a hide shield, nor can you use your shield hand for anything else."
