I've been looking over some possible feats to take, and Transdimensional Spell (CArc, P.84) caught my eye; and it caught my eye for one very special reason: My warmage has a +4 Chain Shirt of Etherealness, and it got me to wondering. Does Transdimensional Spell work equally from the etheral plane as it does from the material? That is, if I were to cast fireball while ethereal, I'd still be able to hit things on the material plane, right? |
| CantripN06-05-07, 01:42 PM | Seems to work. EDIT: Appearances can be deceiving. |

No magical attacks cross from the Ethereal Plane to the Material Plane, including force effects, unless the effect specifically allows such to occur (such as the ghost’s malevolence power). This applies even to force effects; while you're on the Ethereal, your spells and effects can't cross over. |

Transdimentional Spell (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Transdimensional_Spell,CAr) Odd. Seems you're right... I thought it stated you simply affect adjacent planes... |

A warmage is most likely to run into a situation where he might want the transdim spell and have an appropriate spell to mutate with it of any caster, probably. Yes he has orb of force and magic missile, but those spells don't do enough, fast enough, when the swarm of shadows is charging... It's a niche feat though. Warmages cope pretty well vs blinking and incorporeals with their own spell mix, so this is primarily for characters that have encountered a lot of other dimensional effects too (eg, enemies attacking out of rope tricks) or who have an unusually high mix of enemies exploiting the etherial plane or incorporeal effects. |
