No sensible Wizard PC is going to take Craft Magic Weapons or Craft Magic Armor, but the party can really benefit. This is theoretical, but would people approve of a mechanic that allows a character give a feat to another character? I would expect some XP cost to the Wizard or something, but what would people say? Too overbalanced? Worthwhile?

What about another way to gain an extra feat, such as a Wish spell, or something like a manual of gainful exercise?

Are you nuts? Item creation feats are a godsend. No wizard should ever be without at least 1 item creation feat such as craft wondrous item or craft wand. With the way xp is alloted in 3.5, it is actually beneficial to spend xp on crafting and lag behind in lvs.

As for passing around feats, there might be a spell or 2 which does this. Not sure what they are though.

Of course they will take Craft Wands, or Wonderous Items, which is why I specifically mention Craft WEapons and Craft Armor. As for spells, those are more like taking feats that characters already have. A fighter can't get Craft Magic Armor, so what I am asking about is giving a feat slot to another character. Any thoughts from anyone?

Simple, really.

PHB2 retraining rules between levels are the best option in general. There's also the Psychic Reformation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/psychicReformation.htm) power (if you're in a hurry; it does the job in just 10 minutes but costs some XP to perform or reverse) in the XPH.

No need to transfer feat slots if you can alter what you've got occupying them.

Note that anyone who has caster levels can take appropriate item creation feats. The cooperative creation rules merely require that someone has the feat; not necessarily the "creator" (guy paying XP cost).

1. The Magic Item creation feats are well worth it if:

A. Your DM is being a shmuck and not letting you buy existing magic items that you want.

B. You wish to save a LOT of cash and have a small amout of XP to spend.

2. No sensible Wizard will make magic items for his 'friends' unless they pay FULL price. What kind of friends are they freeloading off of him when they should have the exact same job, with the exact same benefits? Do you expect your coworker that knows how to cook to cook you guys dinner without paying him, and then NOT clean up for him? It is HIS XP, and HE took the feat. If they want to save cash, then THEY should spend a feat and some XP to do it.

I played with a cleric who had Craft Wondrous Item. He charged us for materials and 5gp per xp (so basically 70% of market price).

We got items at reduced cost and he was always loaded. Good times.
