| Kouk08-26-07, 03:47 PM | How long does it take one character to dig a 5 ft by 5 ft, 20 ft deep pit? Armed with only a shovel, I imagine it would take at least 1 day, though if you have insane STR you might be faster than someone with average. EDIT: You would need things like a bucket and pulley system to get dirt out after about 5ft down though, so doing it yourself would take a long time. |
| Khadmus08-26-07, 03:48 PM | The closest you can get, really, is Profession (miner). Kouk seems to have a reasonable answer. |
| Kouk08-26-07, 03:51 PM | If you Summon something with a Burrow speed though, you probably could do it in a few hours (to get the loose dirt out). |
| Dheran08-27-07, 02:40 PM | How long does it take one character to dig a 5 ft by 5 ft, 20 ft deep pit? Since this pit is to be used as a trap, the official D&D answer depends on the CR of the trap, the DC used, and your Craft (Trapmaking) check result. The minimum CR you can have is 1, and the minimum cost of a trap is CR X 100 gp. The usual DC to craft a DC 1-3 trap is 20, but you may voluntarily increase the DC by 10 if you wish. If you make the DC on your weekly Craft (Trapmaking) check, multiply that result by the DC to get your progress for the week, in sp. So you can have a simple, uncamouflaged CR1 pit trap, with no reset and requiring repair for re-use, so the cost ends up being the minimum 100 gp. You can voluntarily bump the DC up from 20 to 30. If you make at least 34 on your check, you've dug this simple pit in one full week of work (1020 sp worth of effort toward the 1000 sp goal). This official answer is, of course, completely ludicrous, because a 20' deep pit would probably have a higher CR. |
| tarkin08-27-07, 02:50 PM | How long does it take one character to dig a 5 ft by 5 ft, 20 ft deep pit? Someone mentioned summoning and taking hours. Summoning rarely works for more than rounds. However, you can summon a Celestial Dire Badger. They can burrow in rounds. Summon Monster III can get you a single Celestial Dire Badger. |

I meant, you Summon a creature that can dig, it digs down all the way, kicking a lot of the dirt out, and then it has left a shaft of fairly loose dirt which can be scooped out with less physical effort. |
