A PC in my game claims that there is a feat for his mage that allows him to choose to skip ahead in the initiative order and then loose his following turn. Don't know what it is called or where to find it. Please help.

Sounds like it is a house rule feat or one from the "net book of feats", which either won't be WotC official.

Reactive Counterspell can allow you to do that in a manner of speaking, but only under very specific circumstances.

That's a spell, essentially. The Celerity spells are immediate-action spells that give you extra actions, but you're dazed (can take no actions) until the end of your next real turn.

Alternatively he might just have confused the initiative rules.

He can move his initiative to a higher position in the round, which means that *next round* he gets to act at this higher initiative but loses all actions *this round*. Not the other way around.

Your player may be thinking of the Danger Sense feat from the Complete Adventurer p. 106.

It allows the person to reroll their initiative once per day and keep the better of the two rolls.

Unearthed Arcana (page 118) has the Out-of-Turn Dodge houserule.

Instead of having us wrack our brains on this, why not have the player provide the feat for you? Even if he can only provide the name, we should be able to come up with something for you.

There's a spell in the 3.0 Magic of Faerun called something like -insert name's- Skittish Nerves that basically gives someone +5 initiative for a number of rounds. A mage with that can use it for himself or someone else to cut in the initiative order.

K;s skittish Nerves has reappeared in the 3.5 spell compendium as nerveskitter or some such.
