| pmurray@bigpond.com05-14-07, 09:43 PM | Is there a feat that allows you to tumble at full speed without penalty? Would this apply to tumbling while jumping? |
| Dheran05-15-07, 08:52 AM | Not that I know of. But with a straight Tumble check you can do it; it's just a -10 penalty. The rule for Sprinting Tumble (from Complete Adventurer) lets you Tumble while running with a -20 penalty. Forget feats; just spend those skill points! I have no opinion regarding particulars of a feat I've never heard of. |
| BugHunter05-15-07, 09:12 AM | I don't know about a feat but the thief-acrobat can tumble at full speed as a class feature. There might be other PrCs that get the same thing. |

OMG - it's a level 1 ability! And I can easily make the prereqs! What a shame I wasted 2 skill points on the Nimble Stand skill trick. "Kip Up" is the same, only better. |

Btw, take a good look at the other levels of thief acrobat; they may be worth it. Oh and note that the fast acrobatics allows you to balance and climb at full speed without penalty as well. |

I don't think the other levels are worth it. :D If I put ranks into a prestige class after this, it will be into something that lets the character deal with undead or constructs, or maybe some ToB cheese. As for retraining, I have only done one night with this character (joined an existing campaign), so I'll just straight-out ask for permission to back-engineer it slightly before next session. Sudden Leap (ToB), Fast Acrobatics, Leap of the Heavens, and lot of ranks in jump and tumble allow this character to jump as a swift action, tumble through an opponent at DC 25 (which is high, granted), land on the other side and commence a full-round flanking attack. Everything else is gravy. |
| jadehawk05-16-07, 01:19 PM | Good to hear that you've got it figured out. If you get your rogue to 10th level and pick up skill mastery (or pick it up somehow else...which is another reason to advance in thief acrobat but i know you're already decided on that) then you can take 10 on tumble checks (as well as some other skills of your choice). Getting your modifier up to +15 should be cake by midlevels for any standard (high dex/int) rogue. With abilities like this, the mobility feat becomes useful only as a prerequisite (and in the odd case when your tumble DC builds up due to odd circumstances like tumbling through multiple foes). |

"Kip Up" is the same, only better.Actually, since you can only use a skill trick once per encounter, I feel that having both is a fairly good idea - if something can knock you down once, standing up is just asking for more of the same. |
| Peregrine_Wolf05-16-07, 03:57 PM | Tumbling is a life-saver. I was playing a variant monk I created, and it was me and an elven cleric against 5 ghouls (cleric did something funky and replaced turn undead with something) But, cleric got paralyzed and dropped into a small pit on first turn, and one of the ghouls jumped in after him, leaving me to face 4 ghouls on my own. I tumbled back and forth to hit from one side, next turn they come at me again, and I tumble back to where I can only be hit a few times etc.....Tumble is very useful. =) |

Though for the most part, I tend to be stuck playing Clerics or Fighters mostly since they tend to be lacking in my groups. Can't think of a feat that does what you're looking for, but you might consider the following; ACROBATIC [GENERAL] Benefit: You get a +2 bonus on all Jump checks and Tumble checks. SKILL FOCUS [GENERAL] Choose a skill. Benefit: You get a +3 bonus on all checks involving that skill. Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new skill. Pick Tumble for Skill Focus. Both provide a bonus to your skill rolls, and should stack since they are both undefined. For your gaming example though; are you sure they were Ghouls and not Ghasts? Elves can't be paralyzed by Ghouls. Paralysis (Ex): Those hit by a ghoul’s bite or claw attack must succeed on a DC 12 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1d4+1 rounds. Elves have immunity to this paralysis. The save DC is Charisma-based. Paralysis (Ex): Those hit by a ghast’s bite or claw attack must succeed on a DC 15 Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1d4+1 rounds. Even elves can be affected by this paralysis. The save DC is Charisma-based. -=Psyber7=- |

I don't see why you'd need both. Since Kip Up is a free action, unlimited use, and it comes with the ability to take no penalty for being prone, Nimble Stand really only allows you to be tripped again (which may or may not mean anything). |
| pmurray@bigpond.com05-17-07, 02:05 AM | Tumbling is a life-saver. Agreed. Especially for a Wizard - one AAO can wipe out a wizard. |
