Anyone with a Base attack bonus of 6 or greater gets a second attack if they have the full attack option, correct?

If you have the Two Weapon fighting feat... that second attack from your base attack bonus is only with your primary weapon, right?

What I'm saying is... if someone has Improvd and Greater Two Weapon Fighting as well as let's say a BAB of +11/+6, that doesn't mean they get to attack 8 times, does it? It means Primary weapon, three attacks with off-hand weapon and then a second attack with the primary weapon, right?

I just thought that not only would this make two weapon fighting ridiculously powerful, but it would be a lot of tedious math as well.

I hope this was clear enough... I'm in a rush to leave right now.

Each of the TWF feats grants you only 1 extra off hand attack each, each corresponding to the main hand iterative that it is attained with

so haveing all 3 TWF feats, and a BAB of +11/6/1, will grant 6 attacks Mainhand 9/4/-1 (accounting for TWF penalty-2, assuming light offhand) and off hand 9/4/-1 (also accounting for TWF penalty, assuming light offhand).

BAB of +11/+6 actually gives you a third attack at +1, so that's
+11/+6/+1

Now add the two weapon fighting special attack (assume a light offhand weapon). This gives you one additional attack PER ROUND with the off-hand, but gives a -4 to primary hand attacks and -8 to offhand attacks. So this gives us the same three primary hand attacks each at -4, and one additional offhand attack at the BAB but with a -8. I'm showing the off-hand attacks last, but if you get multiple attacks because your base attack bonus is high enough, you must make the attacks in order from highest bonus to lowest. If you are using two weapons, you can strike with either weapon first.

+11 -4 / +6 -4 / +1 -4 / +11 -8 resolves to

+7/+2/-3/+3

Now add the two weapon fighting feat. This changes the penalties from -4/-8 to -2/-2.

+11 -2 / +6 -2 / +1 -2 / +11 -2 resolves to

+9/+4/-1/+9

Now add Improved two weapon fighting feat. This adds a second offhand attack at an additional -5.

+11 -2 / +6 -2 / +1 -2 / +11 -2 / +11 -5 -2 resolves to

+9/+4/-1/+9/+4

Now add Greater Two Weapon Fighting. This adds a third offhand attack at an additional -10.

+11 -2 / +6 -2 / +1 -2 / +11 -2 / +11 -5 -2 / +11 -10 - 2
resolves to

+9/+4/-1/+9/+4/-1

Re-arrange all that into the right order and you get

+9/+9/+4/+4/-1/-1

As noted this has been extensively covered in the past including a section on the main site.

Remember that although TWF may affect the attack bonus it does nothing to change how many attacks you can make with your "primary" hand. For each +5 BAB beyond +1 (6,11,16) you get another itterative attack allowing for up to four. There are other ways to get additional primary attacks which could increase that even further.

When fighting with two weapons it is possible to get an extra attack with an "off-hand" weapon even without the TWF feat although the penalties are big. The TWF feat lessens those penalties and opens the door for other things. Improved and Greater TWF each allow another off-hand attack that works like normal itterative attacks.

I personally thing that rolling Improved and Greater TWF into one feat isn't game breaking. Putting them together would let your off-hand attack progression mirror your primary weapon's itterative attack progression. I don't think the power up is too great as Greater TWF is effectively spending a feat for what would be a sixth attack at -10 beyond the normal penalties which I wouldn't think is terribly reliable compared to other things a feat can do.

Read rules of the game: TWF on the D&D main site for more info.

There is also an answer almost identical to the OP question in the FAQ.
