| Dethro04-09-07, 11:59 PM | I'm helping build a dwarf for a friend, and they want to go the Two-weapon Fighting route. They want to have a low dexterity however, and apart from having a low base and then getting a +6 item, I cannot see any other way to get TWF without having a sky-high dexterity (Not including Ranger, but they're going barbarian and battlerager so they don't have space for ranger levels). Can anyone think of anything that would work? |
| Someone04-10-07, 12:39 AM | Other than ranger, which you said is out, the only thing you could do is suck it up and take the -6/-10 to hit penalty. You can reduce those by 2 if the off-hand is light, but the TWF feat is what really reduces those numbers. |
| jaelis04-10-07, 12:58 AM | Agile Shield Fighter in the PHBII gives you one off-hand attack with a shield with -2 penalty. There's no Dex req, but no iterative attacks either. (Note that a spiked heavy shield of bashing does 2d6 damage.) |
| Fireclave04-10-07, 01:05 AM | Without going into ranger, or some varient there of, I can think of no way to get TWF without capitalizing your dex. Really, if your friend is going the barbarian route, he might want to reconsider upping his dex anyway. He already suffers an AC penalty when raging and, baring the availability of mithral, will probably only be able to wear medium armor. You can't always get what you want But if you try sometimes, well you might find You get what you need |
| Arcane Guyver04-10-07, 02:35 AM | Well...heh, can't believe I'm even bothering to mention this class...the Complete Warrior's Samurai class is completely based around dual wielding without any Dex. Not that I recommend it, or anything, but the option is there. |

The Samurai class was almost good for something! :) |
| kave9904-10-07, 04:04 AM | gloves of the balanced hand from the Magic Item compendium provides TWF with no prerequisites |
| Lina_Inverse04-10-07, 04:18 AM | Just go with a big arse two hander, way more stylish and effective. Leave the dual wielding to sissy rogues. |
| Bob Loblaw04-10-07, 09:31 AM | The diopsid race in Dragon Compendium allows you to ignore the Dexterity requirements of the two-weapon fighting tree. The race is a humanoid bug, so it may not fit with your game. |
| carcrazy20204-10-07, 09:37 AM | Well i would suggest gettting the oversized TWF feat you will most certainly need that. I dont see why with TWF and Oversized TWF combined with high strengh scores and some weapon specilizantion feats it couldn't work. |

Ranger requires light armor only Samurai works in any armor but only with katanas and watashis (so 2 short swords, 2 bastards swords, or a bastards sword and a short sword) |
| Johannixx04-10-07, 11:41 PM | I'd say start out with a two-handed weapon, and then get Gloves of the Balanced Hand from the MIC, and go greataxe + armor spikes. |
| Dethro04-11-07, 12:24 AM | Well, the dwarf is themed as follows: Light armor (if any); Low dexterity; High Con and Str; Low Int; Pretty standard barbarian, right? Then, he will weild a hammer and an axe (possibly Dwarven Warhammer [swapped Urgrosh out for Warhammer] and Dwarven Waraxe), and more than likely make use of the combat style feats. |
| Steely_Dan04-11-07, 03:39 AM | I'd say start out with a two-handed weapon, and then get Gloves of the Balanced Hand from the MIC, and go greataxe + armor spikes. …And Improved Buckler Defence? |
| Johannixx04-11-07, 11:21 AM | …And Improved Buckler Defence? A dwarf barbarian won't have enough feats to waste one on a single point of armor bonus, especially when it means sacrificing a point of attack bonus. |
| Argo04-11-07, 02:45 PM | Just go Spiked Chain at the start, wielding it 2-handed, then get those gloves of the balanced hand and start using it as a Double Weapon. In the meanwhile, Improved Trip, and hit 'em while they're down! Or Improved Disarm, and hit an 'em while they're... disarmed. |
