| RikuKupo04-28-07, 05:01 PM | Wouldn't every TWFing rogue want to be an insectile? For 2 levels, they can gain 4 more arms, and since TWF and MWF have the same number of feats, you aren't losing out on all that much (the stat boosts cover a lot of the skills lost) to gain a whole lot of attacks. The SA potential is HUGE here. |
| Strudel_Lumpycakes04-28-07, 05:07 PM | I'm pretty sure that you can only use two of the arms in combat. |
| Unholy_King04-28-07, 08:22 PM | The template itself says that the extra arms cannot be used for fighting. |
| RikuKupo04-28-07, 09:22 PM | It says it doesn't grant extra attacks, normally claws/slams/such are under the attack thing. Humans hands dont grant them attacks either |
| Korentin_Black04-28-07, 10:12 PM | And perhaps on a more relevant note for a character who will probably have quite a few social skills... Maybe, just maybe they'd want to be able to get a date one day, without having to go chat up a Kreen? ^_^ Being mutie might be nice for stats, but if your GM doesn't make things difficult for you if you turn yourself into a multi-limbed wandering freak-show exhibit, he's probably going too easy on you. |
| Fallenangel35905-01-07, 10:37 PM | my current DM is hard on anyone thats really weird... except the celestials... because they are purdy |
| Unholy_King05-02-07, 01:23 AM | It says it doesn't grant extra attacks, normally claws/slams/such are under the attack thing. Humans hands don't grant them attacks either It doesn't gain the ability of multiple limbs. Sure, it has some extra arms hanging there, but it can't use them to fight. Take a look at Thri-Kreen. The Racial ability of Multiple Libs specifically states they can take the Multi feats with it. Insectile Template specifically states it gets no additional attacks. Even though a human has two shortswords, blades strapped to his shoes and his elbows can still only attack once (or twice with TWF). |
| RikuKupo05-03-07, 05:00 PM | Well back in 3.0, including SS, the Thri-kreen didn't have that special little entry. So we can't really assume the insectiles wouldn't have it. |
| tiluvias9905-03-07, 09:27 PM | Th fun part about the insectile template is that, while yes, you can't use them for extra attacks, you can still use them to augment your original attacks. 6 handed greatsword, anyone? |
| Dead_Weasel05-04-07, 03:43 AM | Comparing the thri-kreen and xill entries from 3.0 and 3.5, I am swayed by the argument that the extra arms from the Insectile template cannot be used to hold weapons. All four entries have some mention of the Multiweapon Fighting feat. For me, the decisive reason for believing otherwise is this: the Insectile template gives a creature four additional arms, and nowhere does it say that they cannot be used to hold things. For the sake of balance, however, I would be obligated to rule that they cannot be used to wield weapons on their own, but could be used to supplement primary arms in doing something else, with each insectile arm counting as half an arm for numerical purposes, i.e. smashing things with a big weapon. It is important to note that the physical description of humans does not include mention of two arms. Nor is it mentioned that dogs have none. A certain degree of logic, combined with common sense, is needed to work with the rules, because if they explicitly stated every piece of obviousness, the core books would be even bigger and have no space for the game. Does the insectile creature's arms have hands? I don't know! If they have hands, do they have opposable thumbs? I don't know! Maybe they have a circle of pincers at the end of that arm. There isn't really a way to answer this question decisively. Everyone is going to have to answer it for themselves. And, for the love of Cthulhu, do NOT complain if your DM's answer is different from yours. |
