UMD Emulate Race [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-10-08, 02:28 PM I'm thinking about making a character who's primary weapon is only usable by a race that he is not. So he would have to use UMD to wield it. I am trying to see if the Magic Device Attunement feat is necessary for his build.

In the example in the PHB Lydda emulates a Dwarf to use a Dwarven Thrower. How long is the duration for emulating a race with a single check? Can Lydda make her check in the beginning of the day and use the Dwarven Thrower for 24 hours? Does Lydda make a check for each time she attacks with the Dwarven Thrower?

Hows this work?

03-10-08, 02:34 PM From the SRD, Use Magic Device skill:

You make a Use Magic Device check each time you activate a device such as a wand. If you are using the check to emulate an alignment or some other quality in an ongoing manner, you need to make the relevant Use Magic Device check once per hour.
