| anperri08-28-07, 12:35 AM | i wasn't sure which forum this belonged to so it went here... anyway i'm planning making a undead master =P. i found this feat(feat forum?) but im wondering how it will actually impact the spell "Animate Dead Necromancy [Evil] Level: Clr 3, Death 3, Sor/Wiz 4 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Targets: One or more corpses touched Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None Spell Resistance: No This spell turns the bones or bodies of dead creatures into undead skeletons or zombies that follow your spoken commands. The undead can follow you, or they can remain in an area and attack any creature (or just a specific kind of creature) entering the place. They remain animated until they are destroyed. (A destroyed skeleton or zombie can’t be animated again.) Regardless of the type of undead you create with this spell, you can’t create more HD of undead than twice your caster level with a single casting of animate dead. (The desecrate spell doubles this limit) The undead you create remain under your control indefinitely. No matter how many times you use this spell, however, you can control only 4 HD worth of undead creatures per caster level. If you exceed this number, all the newly created creatures fall under your control, and any excess undead from previous castings become uncontrolled. (You choose which creatures are released.) If you are a cleric, any undead you might command by virtue of your power to command or rebuke undead do not count toward the limit. Skeletons: A skeleton can be created only from a mostly intact corpse or skeleton. The corpse must have bones. If a skeleton is made from a corpse, the flesh falls off the bones. Zombies: A zombie can be created only from a mostly intact corpse. The corpse must be that of a creature with a true anatomy. Material Component: You must place a black onyx gem worth at least 25 gp per Hit Die of the undead into the mouth or eye socket of each corpse you intend to animate. The magic of the spell turns these gems into worthless, burned-out shells." http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/spellsAtoB.html#animate-dead and the feat is undead legion... "Undead Legion Type: General Source: Dragon #298 You can control more undead than normal. Prerequisite: Cha 13+, 5+ ranks in Knowledge (religion) Benefit: You can create and control an additional 4 Hit Dice of undead creatures when casting the spell animate dead. If you are a cleric attempting to command undead by virtue of a turning check, you can control and additional 2 Hit Dice worth of undead creatures. Also, as a cleric who is attempting to control a single undead creature with more Hit Dice than you have levels, you may control a creature with 2 Hit Dice more than your cleric level without concentrating continuously. Normal: Using animate dead, you can control only 2 Hit Dice worth of creatures per caster level. As a cleric, you can only control any number of undead whose total Hit Dice do not exceed your level." http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Undead_Legion, the feat makes it sound like it doubles the amount of undead you can control.(2 ->4) but in its "Benefit" its = to the normal animate dead and its normal is half the animate dead normal... i'm just wondering how this feat really effects the spell? |

Make sure the feat is from 3.5. Animate Dead was changed from 3.0 to 3.5. |
| katarl08-28-07, 11:48 AM | The additional 4 hit die is overall, not per level, so you're not doubling it(there are feats that do this however...). If you feel that the feat is too weak for 3.5 necromancy, you might change it to +8 hd control. |
| anperri08-29-07, 12:59 AM | thx for clarifying that, the way the normal was printed made it sound like it was per lvl. oh...and if i may ask what feats can let you double the amount?:D |
| katarl08-29-07, 03:37 AM | The feat formerly known as undead mastery allows 2hd/level extra i think, but you can take that several times. A rod of undead mastery (libris mortis) doubles your hd limit. |
