Greetings!
When choosing to be an Unearthed Arcana Enchanter Variants one can choose to substitute his familiar with a cohort as soon as the character reaches level 6. My question is: If the pc takes leadership, is just the cohort-penalty eliminated (as stated in the text) or does he, in addition, gain a second cohort (the second for leadership, the first for the enchanter variant) too?

Thx in advance!

As a DM, I find cohorts to needlessly complicate the game, particularly if you have more than 4 real life players.

What often ends up happening is the guy with cohorts tends to dominate the game, as he is going two, or even three times. In addition to slowing down rounds, sometimes peopel 'forget' about one or more cohorts. Also, this can **** off the other players, or worse make them jealous. Then I end up dealing with 5 players, each with a cohort, and it just brings the game to a dead stop.

Regardless of whether or not it is 'legal', I would House Rule to dissallow a player to take more than one cohort.

If you take the Leadership feat, your cohort is uprated to the standards of that feat, and you get the prinnies...er, minions...that come with it. IIRC, you also get a +4 bonus to your Leadership score as an additional bonus.

@tarkin
Well, I'm a player in the campaign, but I need cohorts as some form of subtle support, not to increase my combat prowess (that means, they guard my "house" [later, if the odds are lucky, my fortress] and fulfil some deeds for me like researching in cooperation with my other minions (the followers) where a particular object is located, and so on..) I'm playing some kind of a schemeing wizard, so cohorts and followers will be most likely used to underline that nature ; ) So im trying to avoid certain bad side-effects by taking them into combats and so on.. I hope I can convince my dm that my cohort(s?) will earn experience through the tasks they get from me on their own, so I don't have to take them with me everywhere..

Thx for the answer! That was what I wanted to know.
