| bob_the_great08-20-07, 03:37 PM | I'm putting together a warblade who favors the tiger claw discipline, meaning that the jump skill is important to me. I've realized that I can easily get my jump check to the point where I'll never fail a check for the maneuvers, and that I can get it much higher. I'm starting to like the idea of this character making 50-foot jumps just for show. Are there any other uses for jump besides those listed in the PHB? I've looked through a couple other books like Complete Adventurer, but my library is limited. I don't expect anything crazy-good and realize that a single fly spell is better than anything I can do jumping, but I'd like to know if I have any other options. I'd also appreciate having my math double-checked. Right now I have a barbarian 2/warblade 4 with a +40 to jump: +9 - ranks +2 - tumble synergy +4 - strength (+6 when raging) +10 - enhancement - leap of the dragon stance (and makes all jumps running jumps) +5 - competence - boots of striding and springing +8 - 50' movement +2 - whatever the name is of the ToB feat that gives you +1 damage, +2 to discipline skill, and +1 to DCs Any simple suggestions for increasing my jump check is also greatly appreciated. I'm not interested in feats like Run and skill focus (jump), or taking levels in any other class. I'm not really optimizing jump, but rather seeing how high I can get it without sacrificing the character I want. |

| tarkin08-20-07, 04:28 PM | A Masterwork tool (Jump) would either be 1. some kind of boot with a spring in it. or 2. A pole used for pole vaulting. He can't do #1, he already has magical boots. That leaves #2. |
| Twylyght08-20-07, 04:44 PM | One use for jump, and probally a good one as a barbarian warblade, is leap attack feat from complete adventurer, during rage that can put one heck of a wallop on someone. If you can get ahold of a copy of complete scoundrel, there is a selection of skill tricks in there that you might find useful like using jump checks to gain extra movement speed or wall jumping. |
| tvar108-20-07, 07:06 PM | He can't do #1, he already has magical boots. The slot limitations only apply to magical items. If his DM allows a masterwork shoe spring, there is no reason to think that it couldn't be attached to magical shoes. |
| Istaran08-20-07, 07:17 PM | Two levels of totemist from Magic of Incarnum. Use Landshark Boots as your Totem bind. This gives you 4 + 2x essentia competence bonus to jump checks. Not that you need it with what you've got but more importantly it gives you claws on your hands and feet a) you can make two claw attacks as natural attacks, with essentia giving an enhancement bonus to attack/damage (therefore they are magic weapons). b) if, during a move, you jump 5' in the air while threatening an opponent (DC 20, so I don't think you'll have to roll), then you can make four claw attacks on that opponent as a standard action, at full bab, full str (since they're all primary natural attacks) with the essentia as an enhancement bonus still. If you can't think of a way to make four full BAB, full str attacks as a standard action after moving up to your full speed into something appropriately deadly, I'm sure someone else here can contribute suggestions. If you go this route, it'll help to drop in a few incarnum-related feats as well. Bonus Essentia and Extra Soulmeld Capacity being my top choices. (at character level 6+ with just 2 levels of Totemist, those combine to give you +4 enhancement bonus on your claws) |
| Howland Reed08-20-07, 08:29 PM | A minor use, but very nifty, is the simple maneuver Sudden Leap. Let's you cover ground as a swift action, and if your Jump skill is superhuman, you can cover a LOT of ground. |
| Ulandorf_TheBlue08-20-07, 08:49 PM | I have a Dwarf fighter/warblade who has a nearly as high jump skill with Leaping Dragon Stance and Sudden Leap...covers lots of ground and can still dish out full attack. Screw charging |
| bob_the_great08-20-07, 09:27 PM | Yes, I plan to go nuts with sudden leap. I can leap 50' or so as a swift action and make a full attack or I can leap and then charge, covering 150' in a round. I intend to find many uses for this. I had thought of leap attack, but I had not thought of checking out complete scoundrel for skill tricks. Thanks for the suggestion. I never would have thought about a masterwork tool. That one just doesn't feel right at first glance but I'll consider it. As the the Magic of Incarnum suggestion, thank you and wow. I'm not really interested in changing my current set-up but am still intrigued. Thank you all for the suggestions. I was hoping there were some DC 50 jump checks out there I didn't know about, but I'll be plenty happy jumping long distances all over the place. |
| Crimson_Concerto08-20-07, 09:52 PM | There's a feat in Savage Species that gives +10 to jump checks and isn't all that difficult to qualify for. Mighty Leaping or somehting like that. Check it out... |
| Drodain08-20-07, 10:17 PM | You can jump completely around someones threat range. It's really not even that difficult. It makes it easy to control the battlefield. |
