I am not entirely sure of the purpose of the feat Shot on the Run:
Shot On The Run [General]
Prerequisites

Dex 13, Dodge, Mobility, Point Blank Shot, base attack bonus +4.
Benefit

When using the attack action with a ranged weapon, you can move both before and after the attack, provided that your total distance moved is not greater than your speed.
Special

A fighter may select Shot on the Run as one of his fighter bonus feats.

I can only think of a few uses for it:

1. If you are near a doorway or some form of cover you can pop out from behind, shoot, and then hide again.

2. If you are just out of range of a target, but don't want to get too close, you can move a bit to get in range, shoot him, and if he dies then move some more (if you need to).

3. Like 2, if you are threatened you can tumble out of reach, kill the guy, then move through his space when he is dead.

That's about all I can think of. Are there other uses for it, or is it just mainly number 1?

Move into sneak attack range and then move out of range.

Move into 'clear shot' position and then move out of line of charge.

Move 10ft or more to get skirmish, then move out of charge/whatever.

This allows you to move from total cover to firing range and back. This effectively means they can't shoot you unless they have a readied action. Its also good for the above mentioned sneak attack and skirmish.

The classic use is what penchant mentioned.

It is what an archer on the wall of a crenulated castle does.

He steps out from behind the thick stone, fires his bow, then returns back behind the thick stone to 100% cover and safety.

The only way to hit the archer is to ready an action to attack him.

But when he gets wounded, he simply spends a round in safety, behind 100% cover, drinking a potion of healing - while you waste your round 'ready' for an action that never happens.
