One of my players has the Vow of Poberty and had recently died. The other players are thinking about what to do with him. Resurrect him or not. Wouldn't a character with that feat choose not to be resurrected (acordding to the spell, the soul has a choice of being or ot being resurrected), because the spell as a too expensive cost (11000gp is the price they will be paying), and that's a lot of food for the poors.

The material cost of a spell doesn't matter to the person with the VoP because it is not them casting it. I have a character with the VoP, and if someone were to ressurect me, I would certainly go for it. I can do a lot more for the poor while I'm alive, and what is to say that if they don't spend the gp on a material component, that they will give it to charity?

If he died for a good cause, maybe it could be a great rollplaying hook for the Saint template.

More importantly, I think the Material Components of Resurrection are spent regardless of whether the person choses to accept the spell or not.

So its not like choosing not to return saves that money. So they'd probably accept it, but be upset at them for spending the in the first place, and instruct them to use it for more charitable ends next time >_> (assuming they haven't already said that)

Assuming for the moment that the head of the character is available (even the skull will do) a Speak with Dead spell could be used to find out what the character thought about the idea when alive. My group uses it when they're not sure if the character would want to return.

(It's not 100% reliable of course - the dead character might not want to return because of how good things are in the afterlife, something which he did not know in life - and Speak with Dead can only reveal what the character knew in life.)

well unless the character can cast ressurection himself, how would he know about the material component. If the party likes him they would just not tell him, even if it means him being upset if he finds out.

That failing or being invalid in that case. Not to worry, just perform some service for a high lvl druid and have him cast true reincarnate on him, it only has an XP cost, and no level lost (MotW)

The feat itself states "you can drink a potion of cure serious wounds that a friend gives you." They're not responsible for the cost incurred by those using magic items to help them. Somebody else spending gold to help a vow of poverty character doesn't violate the vow of poverty.

Also, being exalted makes you want to stay alive. He would accept the resurrection.

of course you could just take the risen Martyr prestige class to bring him back if he qualifies.
