Vow of Poverty, a question of AC (Incarnum warning) [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-14-08, 02:41 PM Hello all. I have joined in a game playing a Monk / Totemist / Apostle of Peace / Sapphire Heirarch at ECL 17

Now, I know that VoP is skewed in power (awesome at low levels, decent at mid-levels and weak at higher levels) due to the increase of power from magical items. However, this is the reason I took Totemist. Incarnate would have been better, but I needed to be good and lawful to meet the requirements for Sapphire Heirach and Incarnates can only be lawful nuetral, nuetral good, chaotic nuetral or nuetral evil. They lose their abilities if the are not one of these alignments.

My question is regarding the VoP natural armor bonus and the Wormtail soulmeld.

VoP grants an unnamed bonuses to natural armor (it says +# bonus to natural armor). Wormtail belt grants a +# enhancement bonus to natural armor.

Unless I am wrong, these two bonuses stack. With ECL 17 VoP, Vow of Nonviolence (feats stacks with VoP) and four essentia invested in Wormtail belt, that woul grant me +10 natural armor (+2 VoP, +2 VoNV, +6 wormtail belt)

Does anyone see a flaw in my logic? If I have all of the correct, then my VoP Monk/Totemist/Apostle of Peace/Sapphire Heirarch has a whopping 54 AC (+10 base, +11 from VoP ac boost, +12 from wis mod, +11 natural, +6 dex, +4 VoP deflection boost) Greater Apsect of the Deity (persisted) grants another +1 natural, reflected in calculations above

04-14-08, 02:49 PM I think you've got it just about right. btoh grant an addition to a natural armor bonus, not a flat natural armor bonus.

I think VoP works with Wormtail, but I'd stay the Greater Aspect doesn't stack. Unless it is a sacred? or some other bonus?

Well, Greater Aspect of the Deity basically grants you the half-celestial/fiendish template, minus the spell-like abilities. The natural armor bonus does not list a type, it simple states "+1 to your existing natural armor"

04-15-08, 12:54 PM things that say "+x to existing natural armor bonus" are not bonuses in and of themselves. It's the same as a race granting you +x to a specific stat, it increases your base number of it. Most races have 0 natural armor. A template that increases it, changes this from 0 to 1. This is not an enhancement bonus or any other kind of bonus. Your base NA is now 1. I believe Vow of poverty does the same thing, increases your BASE NA, meaning it stacks with anything that give a specific bonus to NA, and anything else that increases your base NA value.
