| Ryilan04-08-08, 03:21 PM | Greetings, My name is Ryilan, new to this forum, not new to the game. For a while ive been wondering something about the Cleric war domain. The war domain states: Taken from SRD! WAR DOMAIN Granted Power: Free Martial Weapon Proficiency with deity’s favored weapon (if necessary) and Weapon Focus with the deity’s favored weapon. Now, at the domain section for the cleric it states: Taken from SRD! If a cleric is not devoted to a particular deity, he still selects two domains to represent his spiritual inclinations and abilities. My question now is, what happens if a cleric who is not devoted to a particular diety chooses the war domain? does he get to pick wat his favoured weapon is, or does he get nothing because you need to worship a deity to get the weapon focus and proficiency feat? Ryilan I'd say based on the domains you've chosen, possibly the race as well you and your DM come to an agreement about what weapons should be allowed for you to use. My DM is lenient on the favored weapon. He'd probably let you take any axe if you worshiped Gruumsh for example; or if you had war domain with no deity, he'd probably let you select any martial weapon with damage die >= 1d8, and he may even let you use other martial weapons at no penalty. |

The table may be in the FAQ as well, and I know that it is in one other place (SpC?). Now, welcome to the boards, and if you need anything ask, or check my Handy Haversack, that link is useful. |
| Hsien04-08-08, 05:52 PM | Just keep in mind that an Exotic Weapon is not the same as a Martial Weapon, unless the DM is overly generous. |
| Ryilan04-09-08, 04:18 AM | Oke, thanks ^^ The deity weapon spell should help =) Ryilan |
| BronzeBeard04-09-08, 07:08 AM | Actually, as it seems that the rules don't cover it, I think that rule 0 is active here and that you should go and ask your DM. |
| dman1123504-09-08, 01:46 PM | The rules do cover it though. Check out that spell. It will have appropriate weapons for various alignments. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't ask your DM, as there may be a weapon more associated with your philosophy than the Warhammer for good or the Sythe for evil (I think those are right, but don't hold me to it). |

That doesn't really answer it, though, as the table is for something a bit related but definitely different. Unless, perhaps, you were alignment-focused. |
| Divisionbyzer004-09-08, 09:07 PM | Just pick a weapon you think your character should have based on how you plan on playing him and what his philosophy will be, and ask your DM about it. |

DM call, there are no direct rules. A DM looking for inspiration (or a clue on intent) can look at Spiritual Weapon spell in the PHB and the Weapon of the Deity spell in CD for what to do when you need a weapon when you don't have a deity. In short, for balance reasons, you shouldn't allow them to freely choose a weapon. You should instead use a weapon based on their alignment and use the common weapons (and not unusual or rare ones.) |
| StruckingFuggle04-09-08, 10:14 PM | Check out the rest of my post Strucking. I saw the rest of your post, I just felt that the first bit wasn't even as relevant even as you were making it. *shrug* |
| dman1123504-09-08, 11:42 PM | My point was that there was a place that had weapons listed for those w/ out deities, but I feel it is too restricting (what about that N/G cleric who focuses on more of a laid back sort of melee, in other words, not the war hammer type?). I feel that you should just talk to your DM, I don't think that shoehorning you to using a weapon that you wouldn't normally use would be something (s)he'd do. |
