| Razorgrin04-17-07, 09:14 AM | I'm looking for a way to get a character the benefit of Weapon Finesse without actually taking the feat. I can't afford a non-arcane-boosting level dip, so Swashbuckler1 and Fighter1 are both out. The Feycraft weapon template is enticing, but I hate the loss of damage. Even a weapon that allows me to add my Dex mod to attack (and, if possible, damage) would be great; bonus points if it's a shortsword. Any ideas? |
| RobbyPants04-17-07, 09:35 AM | Not that I know of, unless there's some wierd, obsucre PrC that I've never heard of... Sorry! Although, in all seriousness, if you're an arcane caster, why are you worried about making melee attacks? Is it just for backup, or for a character concept? A low BAB as a caster will hurt your ability to hit, even with Weapon Finesse and a good Dex mod. |
| jaelis04-17-07, 09:50 AM | Feycraft is a good solution. Loosing 1 pt of average damage to gain a feat is a great deal. I'd just go with that. |
| runestar04-17-07, 09:54 AM | Isn't there a spell called heroics or something which can be used to temporarily grant a bonus feat or something?:P |

| Zherog04-17-07, 12:52 PM | Although, in all seriousness, if you're an arcane caster, why are you worried about making melee attacks? One reason is because Weapon Finesse applies to touch attacks. Since many wizards dump Strength, it's a decent feat if you plan on delivering a lot of touch spells. |
| jaelis04-17-07, 01:01 PM | The OP wants it for a short sword though. Something like feycraft applying to touch spells sure would be sweet! |
| Zherog04-17-07, 01:05 PM | The OP wants it for a short sword though. Don't bog down my brilliance with facts! :D |
| Jandulh04-17-07, 01:15 PM | Isn't there a +2 enhancment called 'finesse' that grants the hand wleiding the weapon weapon finesse as well as +2 dex? |

A low BAB as a caster will hurt your ability to hit, even with Weapon Finesse and a good Dex mod. Yeah, I'm a jade phoenix mage (from warmage and swordsage). I'm trying to balance my abysmal BAB with my acceptably-high Dex. I did it more because I'm already the fifth character and it just made for an interesting character. jaelis has a point; it's only 1 point on the average. Given that all my maneuvers are +damage, I can stand the loss. I just hate physically rolling d4s. Zherog, my DM already houseruled that touch attacks are Dex whether melee or ranged, so that doesn't apply in my specific case (but it's a good point!). Jandulh, if you know where to find that enchantment, you'd be my personal hero. It sounds incredibly familiar, but I think it might've been a specific weapon that granted you WF and the Dex bonus. (Nothing stops me having our friendly neighborhood artificer NPC making me one, I suppose.) Thanks, COmpatriots! |
| jaelis04-17-07, 11:16 PM | I just hate physically rolling d4s. I'm with you. You could use a kukri instead... then you only lose 1/2 a point from feycraft and you get to roll a d6. |
| unusualsuspect04-17-07, 11:28 PM | Isn't the Finesse enhancement from the Arms and Equipment Guide? |
| Psikerlord04-18-07, 12:25 AM | The finesse enhancement is in Magic of Eberron I think. +2 dex and weapon finesse for the cost of a +2 bonus |
