Can someone ring in on these feats, everything I've read makes them seem too good. I mean +2 attack and damage to all weapons of that type with only requirements of weapon spec and weapon focus seems like it shouldn't be this good. I mean that's less requirements than Greater Weapon Spec and it doesn't do half that. So what's the deal with this feat? Does it not stack with Weapon Spec or is it really that ridiculously good?

+2 to attacks and damage is nice, but not that great. It's certainly not ridiculous - the entire Weapon Focus/Specialization tree is generally of little use.

It's that good because fighters required a boost.

It also stacks with Greater Focus and Greater Specialization.

Stacking is pointless, because Greater Weapon feats are so amazingly horrible. They were almost a wasted feat, and now that you can get Weapon Mastery for double the bonus on tons more weapons, with slightly easier prerequisites (4 levels of fighter then 4 levels of any full BAB, instead of all Fighter), there is no point. I used to try to defend WotC against accusations of power creep, but when supplemental feats blow the crap out of core feats that do the same thing, you can't deny it anymore.

If WotC thinks that fighter types need boosts, they should errata the core Greater feats to double their benefit, instead of continuing to do things like this in supplements that DMs throw out because it is so obviously better than the core.

Sure, they could errata the core Greater Weapon Focus - to do exactly what Melee Weapon Mastery does. But apart from the fact that this requires more retroactive changes (like errata-ing every previously-released stat block in every book that uses it), there's also a general rule that supplemental material can't contradict the core three.

It was a massive undertaking to get the Polymorph errata done, and even with that the PHB2 had to hedge it with a "this doesn't actually remove any of the existing Polymorph spells, after all..."

However, if you go read the previews and design interviews (especially), they very openly talk about the fact that they reviewed the relative effectiveness of many of the core three components and found many of them wanting - and the PHB2's feats were geared to plug those holes (since, as noted, they can't just errata the PHB1 willy-nilly).

A feat that a character cannot take before 8th character level should compare in power with a fourth level spell. Do Melee Weapon Mastery and Ranged Weapon Mastery do that? Yes they do, because the best comparator among spells is Greater Magic Weapon, which gives a +1 enhancement bonus to attack and damage rolls per four caster levels. The bonuses from the feat are untyped to make up for the fact that they do not scale. (Additionally, a feat has a far higher opportunity cost than a spell).

This comparison also demonstrates that GWF and GWS are such poor feat choices they are not worth the paper they are printed on. In my games they give a bonus that scales with the number of class levels of fighter the character has.

As for stacking, the rules are as follows.Stacking
In most cases, modifiers to a given check or roll stack (combine for a cumulative effect) if they come from different sources and have different types (or no type at all), but do not stack if they have the same type or come from the same source (such as the same spell cast twice in succession). If the modifiers to a particular roll do not stack, only the best bonus and worst penalty applies. Dodge bonuses and circumstance bonuses however, do stack with one another unless otherwise specified.Applying them shows that the bonus from the feat stack with everything except bonuses from other sources of the same name.

I think it's fine the way it is. Stacks with other Spec/Focus feats plus fills several areas that needed help.

Weapon Sheild/THF: +2 Hit/+2 Damage is nice, I'm in a low magic campaign so I may be biased that way.

Special attacks, disarming, sundering etc...it makes it worthwhile to carry a second weapon that shares the damage type of the specialized weapon.

TWF: Gives the secondary weapon a boost if of the same damage type. Classic Longsword/Dagger combination.
Longsword ( Slashing ) and Daggers are Peircing/Slashing

Ranged Ranged Mastery also gives +20 to Range Increment, very handy for weapons like Daggers that start with a 10' increment.

I tinhk tht its a good feat;
But if yu think is too much good, you can fix it, leaving the +2 in attack and damage, to the weapon you choose...

But the fighter really need it.;)

I don't think that they are overpowered realy.

The feats are barely passable, IMO, not even close to overpower.
