Had a cool idea for a weapon style feat while discussing board-and-stick builds over in the CO board. Please leave questions, comments, money, praise, etc.

...

STRONG AND STRIKE [Weapon Style Feat]
Requirements: Quick Draw, Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Focus (longspear or spear), Weapon Focus (shortsword)
Benefit: As a full-round action, you may make a single melee attack with your longspear or spear; if the attack succeeds, you may immediately drop the spear, draw your short sword, move up to the enemy and make a full attack.
Special: The movement made during the attack provokes attacks of opportunity as normal, even if you only move 5 feet. This feat does not allow you to exceed your movement if your speed has been reduced by encumbrance or a spell or other effect.
* You may choose not to drop your spear as part of the attack, but if you have only two hands, this means you must hold it in your off-hand and cannot use it without freeing up the hand that is currently holding the short sword.

slightly older version:

STRONG AND STRIKE [Weapon Style Feat]
Requirements: Quick Draw, Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Focus (longspear or spear), Weapon Focus (short sword)
Benefit: As a full-round action, you may make a melee attack with your longspear or spear; if the attack succeeds, you may immediately drop the weapon, draw your short sword, move up to the enemy and make a full attack.

Does that help to quell the raging blood of people demanding 300 builds?

so was your imagination killed by that movie to, because that seems to be what happened to everybody else to.

I haven't seen the movie. I just had an idea for a Weapon Style Feat 'cause people were talking about wanting to wield a two-handed spear and a short sword at the same time.

...

So... what did you think of my feat?

The only thing I found mechanically wrong was that you should only be able to make a single attack with the spear, not as many as you want.

It is a single attack... I think...
As a full-round action, you may make a melee attack with your longspear or spear
Maybe the wording isn`t perfect, but to me it is clear.

I like it as is, but how about changing it slightly? What I`m thinking of would be something like this (maybe something should be added to the requirements with this change, but I`m not sure):
"As a full-round action or during a charge, you may make a melee attack with your longspear or spear..."
Bolded what I`ve added.
Anyway, with or without this change it is a nice feat :).

You're only supposed to make one melee attack with your spear, that's why it says "you may make a melee attack." This usually, written in the singular as it is, means you can only make one attack.

I have clarified it in the first post now, including the "old version."

The way I see this feat is already as an "augmented charge," plus the effects of pounce. Basically, you are allowed to attack with a reach weapon, then close the distance and make a full attack with a short sword as a full-round action.

In the first post, I've clarified some of the rules language so that lawyers and mongers can't have as much of a field day with it. I know some people will cry out "but it's a 5-foot-step!" when they see that the movement provokes, but movement provokes during a charge, too.

The way I see this feat abused the most is when characters who have had themselves entangled or otherwise slowed in their movement wanting to use it to move farther than they would normally be allowed, which I will edit out in a minute or so.

I think being able to make an attack at your highest BAB with a two-handed reach weapon (spear) that triggers free movement and make a full attack with a light weapon (short sword) for the low, low cost of 5 feats and only a 15 Dex is pretty cheap.

Weapon Focus is a dime a dozen and Quick Draw is handy for any occasion; TWF is the only Feat that has an ability requirement. I can see this being paired with an enchanted buckler and the Improved Buckler Defense feat (retain your buckler's shield bonus when wielding a weapon in that hand) for some pretty awesome builds.

'bout time the fighter was able to achieve some pretty awesome builds.

Looks good. I'd add Weapon Specialization (Longspear), Weapon Specialization (shortsword) and Melee weapon specialization, then allow it.
