| Rebel58112-18-07, 09:49 PM | I want to play a human character. Is there anyway to get Powerful Build? |
| Greco12-18-07, 10:29 PM | NO. |
| Istesrillith12-18-07, 10:38 PM | I have to concur with that sentiment. Powerful Build with a human is rather unfair to the normal people in the world who don't have Conan's build. |
| Taren12-18-07, 11:19 PM | I want to play a human character. Is there anyway to get Powerful Build? monkey grip, bracers of fearsome grip not "powerful build" but grants the same ability. in addition you could talk to your DM about taking that and "jotunbrud" to essentially gain the same thing, not RAW but its two feats. |
| jaelis12-18-07, 11:39 PM | polymorph etc |

| risner12-19-07, 11:38 AM | I want to play a human character. Is there anyway to get Powerful Build? No, there is no way to get PB unless you are a PB race. You can take Monkey Grip, but like unlike PB, MG is less useful than Power Attack unless you are Huge sized or larger. |
| Tordak12-19-07, 11:59 AM | The closest I can think of, without the penalty of monkey grip, would be a human with a regional feat found in Fearun (which grant the same benefit for grapple, bull rush and other oppose strengh check, as well as determining effects of special attacks of certain monster, like swallow whole), and a major titan Bloodline (UA). You'll get all the benefit from powerful built (and much, much more) that way, but you need to deal with your DM if you're not in Forgotten Realm setting an anything from UA is optional. And sorry, I don't remember the name of the feat, neither the book in which you can find it (it's in one of the following : Player's guide to Fearun, Forgotten Realm campaing setting, Races of Fearun. I think...). |
| Knightblde12-19-07, 01:26 PM | As for weapon use, the Strongarm Bracers work the best. It is better than monkey grip by far, and scales if you change size. |
| Rebel58112-19-07, 03:43 PM | I actually just want to be able to get extra range since I'm playing a Glaive based Warblade with Stand Still and Combat Reflexes. I don't care about the other benefits of Powerful Build. As long as Monkey Grip or Strongarm Bracers give me the ability to use Large weapons for that extra reach, I'm fine. |

Actually, Powerful Build doesn't grant extra reach. Neither does Monkey Grip or the bracers. You really need enlarge person. |

Well then this topic's a bust. I don't need Powerful Build for anything else (although it would be a nice boon). |
| Tordak12-19-07, 05:17 PM | I think a larger version of a reach weapon grant more reach, an extra 5 ft of reach, which would make your glaive reach 15ft instead of 10ft. You should not be able to attack (and don't threaten) square within 10ft of you (so 5ft and 10 ft are now out). |

| jaelis12-19-07, 05:52 PM | In the context of powerful build: Powerful Build: The physical stature of half-giants lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the half-giant is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A half-giant is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A half-giant can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category. For larger weapons in general: How do reach weapons work if they are of a different size than the creature wielding them? Say, an ogre wielding a Small or Medium glaive, or a human with the Monkey Grip feat wielding a Large ranseur? What is the reach for each situation? A reach weapon doubles its wielder’s natural reach, but only if the weapon is at least of an appropriate size for the wielder. Wielding a “too-small” reach weapon grants no reach. An ogre (Large) wielding a Medium or smaller reach weapon gains no reach from the weapon, and could thus attack foes either 5 feet or 10 feet distant (as normal for a Large creature wielding a non-reach weapon). A human (Medium) wielding a Large or larger reach weapon could attack a creature 10 feet away (but no further), and could not use the weapon to attack a creature 5 feet away has normal for a Medium creature wielding a reach weapon). A human wielding a Small reach weapon would gain no reach from the weapon. The Player’s Handbook isn’t as clear on this as it could be, although an example of reach in action on page 113 in the Player’s Handbook provides pretty strong support: “A typical Large character wielding a reach weapon of the appropriate size can attack a creature 15 or 20 feet away . . .” [italics added]. While this reference doesn’t mention the ability to wield a reach weapon larger than the appropriate size, allowing such a weapon to grant reach to its wielder is a reasonable extension of the spirit and intent of the rule. |
| ToastedAmphibian12-19-07, 06:54 PM | You should play a halfgiant human. Take the Psiwarrior class, and take exspansion as your first level power. Poof, your now large, have 10 foot reach, and count as huge for opposed checks. |
| 1 ton ghost12-20-07, 12:21 PM | goliaths are just humans w/ giant blood. PB is just a byproduct, albeit, a terribly powerful one, hence the +1LA. it's the meat and potatos of that race which is why everyone keeps milking the Hell out of it... closest solution i know is Jotunbrud (Races of Faerun i think). basically, you're treated as Large for grapple/bullrush/trip/etc., however, there is no provision for large weapons as that is just too damn good. still, the feat is incredibly useful to a human (and only human) Ftr type. PB is nice and all in that plain generic combat sense, but having a might phallus sword is not terribly effective in the Underdark, some forests and jungles, many urban centers, etc. given it's size and mass. |
| madbliza12-20-07, 12:27 PM | I would say take Half-giant. Then take that feat in the Races of Destiny that allows you to be a human for all intensive purposes. I forgot the name but that's why all the rest are here to provide that answer. (I think its Human Heritage.) |
